Any one care to opine on half-helmets? Looking to add one to my collection. Currently own a HJC 3/4 and full face and am happy with the fit. Not sure about the looks of the HJC 1/2 though.

I have this one and wouldn't part with it for anything. The shell is carbon fiber and composite material which makes it very light. The hat is DOT approved BTW. Nexl Half Helmet Johnny [image]http://www.nexlsports.com/popup_image.php?img=blue-carb-flame.gif[/image]

One of thae things about half shells, which is what I have always worn, is "visor issues". I like the little visor which some come with and some snap on. In certain windy conditions, I take the visor off of mine, because it tends to pull my head around. I also have the Triumph windshield contributing to some turbulance.

I also find that a snap on visor can really rattle in the wind.

Wow, good timing! I am also looking for a half helmet at this time. I did see the Scorpion, looks nice. The Nexx helmets are nice too. I also like this one from Zeus:

If you are in the market for a 1/2 helmet check these guys out. Its not a lot bigger than the novilty types but is DOT aproved.I also tried the Skid Lid brand and the Fulmer brand of this style. They are all priced within $15 of each other.I liked the Vega one best because it sat lower on my head and I felt it would stay on better at speed.
I just bought one and like it a lot. I use it for wearing around town. It doesn't give you that Marvin the Martian look(much).
Just as importantly it stays on your head and doesn't try to strangle you when going over 40mph.
My full face gets a smidge warm to wear during the summer here in Vegas.

i got one of them lids that BillPVegas has posted ,comfy enough but at any speed over 60 kph(40ish mph) you get way to much wind noise ( not if ya have a windshield, which i dont on the TBA ) as it whistles by your ear and strap. mines gets so bad i cant hear my mp3 player above 80 kph (50ish mph)

+1 to the Scorpion100, best half I've had by far. Visor works well, swaps out easily.

I have the same helmet as billpvegas too.
I've also have a HJC and some other brand. Doesn't matter much, but they all contribute to a lot of wind noise. MP3 player? Forget about it. On longer rides, or when I know I'll be on the freeway, I wear earplugs to protect my hearing. My better half has adopted the HJC since it's the most comfortable for her.
I'll have to look into the Scorpion, the built-in goggles sound interesting. We're also looking into full-face or better coverage helmets too.

I just bought this. It's a leather clad from Daytona and it's light as a feather. Chris, if you read this can you measure across the helmet (ear-ear) on that carbon fiber lid you bought? My leather Daytona is 9 1/4 across (and yes I went with the one with the visor... am I still cool?). Just wondering if it's as 'thin' as yours. Anyway I love the lightness and no parachute effect (I sit behind a windshield and lowers). And it looks good (as good as any helmet can) with the leather finish. Oh yeah, I'm styling now!!!

Once I bought my 3/4 helmet (Scorpion EXO-200), I gave away my 1/2 helmet. It was unbearable (wind, lifting, noise).

Hey Keith... My Daytona Carbon Fiber is 9" ear to ear...carbon to carbon. With that thin edge gaurd on the rim, it's just under 9 and 1/4". CONGRATS on getting yours. Dude, I guess you got a tuff enough look to pull off the visor so your still cool . Glad to hear yours is really light too even though there's leather on there. I still LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. . Absolutely perfect with the adjustable straps at the ears, the weight, and NO parachute effects. Nice and thin, not bulky. etc.
