I rode to National Guard drill last Saturday to find the parking lot full, as our whole brigade was drilling on the same weekend. There is a section lined out "for Motorcycles Only" and I found a couple cars had parked there as well, but it looked like one space was sort of open. So I attempted to park in that space but felt uncomfortably close to the ****** Mercedes that had parked taking up three spaces in the meantime. As I tried to squeeze by the car to find another space, my painted hard bag (I was on the Beemer) scuffed against the bumper of the Mercedes. I checked the damage, and while it scuffed both my bag as well as the bumper, the scuff on the Mercedes was very minor to the point it would easily be buffed out without painting. I HATE when someone leaves a mark on my car and doesn't at least tell me about it or leave a note, so I went in to tell the inconsiderate beeyatch (I know her, and this is an understatement) that I scuffed her car as I was trying to squeeze by it as it was parked where it sholdn't have been.

At first, she thought I was going to tell her to move her car and didn't want to hear it, but I insisted on pressing the point that I needed to let her know I had scuffed her stupid Mercedes. She finally listened to (or at least heard) what I was telling her, and she said, "If you hurt my car, one of us is going to jail, and the other one is going to the morgue." I thought this was kind of funny, so I laughed it off. She stormed out of her office to see what had happened, and I actually had to point out the "damage" to her. The next thing I know, she had called the freaking camp police to come take a report. I'm surprised she didn't call me a racist, if you know what I mean.

Monday, I went to my insurance agent to let him know to expect a claim, and he said that regardless of how minor the damage, it would still go on my record as an "accident" and my rates might increase - EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD PARKED HER CAR ILLEGALlY...

The thing about it is that I'm all over my guys if they park where they shouldn't. She thinks she's too good to have to park across the street like normal folks.

I now see why people don't leave courtesy notes anymore.

That having been said, if it happened again, I'd do the right thing and would still let the person know about what had happened or I'd leave a note.

I plan on pointing and laughing at the "damage" on her car every chance I get from now on, though... At least I have THAT to look forward to.

Rant off. Thanks for listening.

Well, she sounds like a real class act! Personally, that wouldn't be the last scuff left on her car, but I don't have patience like you obviously do John. The insurance thing is crap though, if it cost even 50 bucks to buff out, your rates will increase?

So why wasn't she ticketed for improper parking? Cop too afraid of her to do his job?

Well, for what it's worth, at least YOUR conscious is clear. Good on ya, for being honest, and taking responsibility. A rarity these days.

Tough break there, John. That women sounds like a real piece o' sh...err..work there, ol' buddy.

And now, in a very tangential way, I think the following little bit of baseball/popular culture lore might have a very slight analogy to your predicament here....
___________________________________________________________

In a July 6, 1946 interview with Red Barber, Leo Durocher had been commenting on the common belief at the time that if a team's players got along well, they would naturally play better than teams with difficult or irascible players; noting some of the players on the Giants who had reputations as personable individuals, notably Mel Ott, he observed that they were all "nice guys", but would nonetheless finish last (while his Dodgers were in first place), summing up his argument with, "Nice guys; finish last." Durocher later noted that the remark was quoted accurately in the published interview, but came to take on a different meaning when some incorrectly thought he meant that such a team would finish last because it included "nice guys", when in fact he had meant that there was no correlation (and in fact, saw it more as an ironic situation) between the personalities on a team and their level of play. (See 1966 Chicago Cubs, below.) Thus the quote "Nice guys finish last" has long been attributed to Durocher, including an entry in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations. Many historians assert, however, that the famous four words never were actually uttered by Durocher; the quotation as it is remembered actually came from headline writers distilling Durocher's quote that "The nice guys are all over there, in seventh place, not in this dugout" into a pithy soundbite.

(in other words, the dumb broad parked in the wrong spot, the mark you made on her bumper was insignificant and could've easily been rubbed out, AND you evidently already knew that the dumb broad was ALSO as real bee-yatch TOO...and sooooo, I think, ol' buddy, you were being WAY too nice in this situation by attempting to inform her of this VERY minor scuff...and you probably would've fit right into the lineup of the 1946 New York Giants, and of course, you would've finished in 7th place along with Mel Ott and the boys that year too!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well, Dwight, sometimes being an honest citizen is an obligation which requires one to do the right thing in spite of knowing the end result will require payment and not reward. I'll stay on the high road on things like this. It just ain't worth the bad karma to do otherwise.

(But, I WILL be laughing and pointing everytime I see the bee-yatch.)

Hey Jc

For next time, get some stickers made up

"Penalty 4 flat tyres"

and stick them on the parking sign, then carry out the penalty when she parks illegally.

Years ago we had a problem with a property near a sports stadium, this fixed the problem, only had to nick the valves from 2 cars.

Good on ya John... I commend you in this situation. She's the one that has to live with herself and you... well you get to live with yourself with a clear conscience. But ummmm, just a thought but maybe look into if it's cheaper just to pay for the 'damage' (not damage, but 'damage') yourself, or get the insurance co. to cover it.

I would want to know why she wasn't ticketed for illegal parking too.

Well, a clear concience is worth a lot, John. I used to have some small cards, like business cards, that a friend of mine shared with me. They were for situations like this, and said something like... " Did you have to park this way, or are you just an inconsiderate as***e. One would put them under the wiper blade. I think they were available in novelty shops, way back when. Too bad she didn't get a ticket for her parking. Finally, I used to work for a local decal company and am still friends with those guys. I occasionally think of getting them to print up some stickers, like those cards, so I can use them. They make a decal that is super adhesive, and is a bi**h to get off. I'll bet I could sell them on flea bay!

Just remember: "No good deed goes unpunished!"

I'd be doing the valve removal next time I found it there, especially since she received no warning from the cop...
just watch for surveillance cameras!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?

I asked the cop why she shouldn't be ticketed, and he said that the policy on camp is that they only ticket cars in handicapped (without sticker or sign on car), red curbs, and on grassed areas. I also made sure that I included her little threat in my statement he had me fill out.

I live in a Seniors ONLY Mobile Home Park here in Vegas. WE have a resident across the street who lives in a trailer that his dad bought for him. Dad lives in Fla. but sonny boy and his current woman live across from me. He constantly parks his vehicle in the street directly across from my drive. I have asked him repeatedly to stop that and I am made written compliants to the owners of the park about that also. He still parks there.

The Police will not respond into the park for traffic accidents they claim it is private property etc. Now my vehicle in the drive is a '85 Ford F-150 PU truck with a long trailer bar and big ball on the end of it. He vehicle is a 10 year old Suzsicki Suicide SUV. Now if my foot should happen to slip from the brake to the go pedal whilst I was backing up and my trailer ball should penetrate the drivers side of his SUV do you think I would leave a note on his windshield?

I can see his tiny SUV impaled on my trailer hitch as I drive down the street and it makes me smile.

But I would not do that.........

Dan, if the park has a no on-street parking policy, an intimation of legal action will get the owners moving.

And John, sounds like time to petition the person in charge for a policy on the motorcycle parking enforcement.

Already done. The Brigade Command Sergeant Major (a friend of mine) "owns" the parking lot and has issued a no tolerance notice for those inconsiderate buttcracks who park where they shouldn't. Parking where you should not park will result in a ticket and a visit to his office.

I this point in the conversation, I would have considered this a challenge, or at least a bonafide threat. Witnesses?

John, for some reason I'm picturing the "lady" in your encounter as being a bit on the short side, but as wide as she is tall. Am I right?

And Dan, if you should find yourself driving down the road with this guys suzuki accidently impaled on your tow-bar, make sure you get some pictures so we can all share the moment please

A buddy of mine had some stickers that he would put right across the drivers side of the windshield. They were bright orange, very critical of the parking skills of the offending driver, and made of very flimsy paper and VERY strong glue. He quit using them after a delivery truck driver tracked him down and smacked him. Having been a delivery truck driver I might have smacked him too.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
