I had today off, hoping for a NASCAR ticket that never materialized, and wound up riding instead to Natchitoches, La. yesterday, to see my son perform last night at NSU.
I tried every which way to get into some rain, but it never happened. I left Houston yesterday right as it looked like it was about to bust loose, and it did, from what I hear, but I was able to stay just east of it all the way up through East Texas, and across into Louisianna on the El Camino Real.
Beautiful spring day, yesterday and today, and that does not have to mean the sun was out. That means that temperatures were comfortable, and that I was dressed properly ( I'm sure glad I didn't get wet).
From Norwood, Texas, coming south on 147, that has to be one of the prettiest rides in the great State of Texas. Nothing but National Forest, and Lake Sam Rayburn (what a Big-Sky view that is!), and all at 70 mph posted on very well-maintained improved highway, with very little traffic.
I've done it at night before, too, and either way, it's really special. I wish I could make that run on a daily basis! It really clears the head!
All in all, 750 miles since after 6:00, Saturday night, all but 63 miles since 11:30 yesterday.
A very nice three day break!
