OK, I need help! Santa saw fit to bring me a new Memphis Slim for my '02 America. I have heard rumors that mounting this shield requires relocating the turn signals. Is this true? If so, what's the best (easiest) way to do it?

Thanks for any info you can give me!

Kathy,
First of all, nice score on the Memphis Slim.

I have the Memphis Slim on my Speedmaster. I just took some pictures to show you my setup. They aren't the best picture I've ever taken, but you'll get the idea. Read on below:

The top picture shows that the turn signal sits far enough behind the wind screen that they should not interfer with eachother. I 'think' that would be true with the TBA handlebars also. The second picture shows the position of the light behind the screen. Notice that I use a 2 inch tab coming off the mounting post to offset the lights. That isn't stock. The tabs came with my Triumph Summer Screen, and I left them on the bike when I changed to the Memphis Slim. So the only problem you might have is the the shield will partially block a direct front-on view of the turn signal. It shouldn't be a problem if your wind screen is clear.

I'd say just mount it up and work from there.

Hope this helps.
John

PS, that black thing tied to my handlebar is a small case for sunglasses. If someone would make an attractive, well made leather case that hold 2 or 3 pair of glasses and fits on a speedmaster handlebar, I would buy one immediately.

I was concerned about that too but the Memphis Fats doesn't go out to the pumpkins on my TBA so no problem there. My problem was properly positioning the lowers to get the buffeting under control. I found that no matter where I put them, the buffeting was still there. I fixed the problem by buying some 1/4 inch plexigless and making new ones that were 6 inches longer than the Memphis Shades lowers but the same width at top and bottom. I used the MS lowers as templates and used a jig saw to cut them out. I centered the holes and the top tucks right up next to the windshield and the bottom goes to the bottom of the fork shroud. Finally, peace behind the windshield. Oh, if you try it yourself cut the plexiglass VERY SLOWLY. Otherwise it melts.

Bagirl, I recommed relocating the turn signals. It really dresses the bike up and cleans up the handle bars.
Here's a link to Ma's Cycle. A bit pricey but gives you some ideas. I'm sure this could be fabricated in the garage.

Thanks for the link. The signals would look much neater if they were moved. I just always hate messing with anything electrical! I guess we'll try mounting the shield to see what it looks like and then decide if I want to order the kit.

Hey BAGirl, Check out how I mounted my turn signals and it only cost me about $20.00 for the mounts from JP cycles.
