So who's got em? I've got a pair of the short slashcut specialty spares and they look great (I had them powder coated) and they sound...

good.

There's a bit of a high pitched whistle that I'd like to get rid of, but I can't pull the baffles as it's already low on back pressure.

Thoughts? Any one repacked the baffles with much luck?

I just put on a used set of short slashcuts and I love'em. No whistling, though.

Did you powder coat them or ceramic coat them?

I've had a set of long cannons installed for about six years. I've tinkered with removing/adding baffles quite a bit over those years but never heard any kind of whistle. I recently added a GPS/MP3 player so I repacked the baffles with a little more material to tone them down just a touch.

One mod I did early on was adding a wrap of hardware screen around each baffle before inserting. Someone a long time ago posted this helped keep the baffle material from packing down and getting louder.

Mine eventually got a little raspy in the high end, but the baffles were pretty worn. That was after 4 years and 17,000 miles. I put new baffle material in and they sounded like new again - actually ran better possibly due to a little more backpressure. I think from now on, I'll just repack them with new material every two years. Material is cheap and it's easy to do.

Thanks guys. No one else has the issue with the whistling? Almost sounds like a VW.

Oh, and I ceramic coated, not powder. Slip up there.

Do you know what causes that sound in a VW? The "Fweem" sound they call it? It's when the asbestos ring gaskets between the muffler and heater boxes start leaking (possibly dried out and cracked). Have you done anything to seal the joint between the mufflers and header pipes?

That was a dude who called himself Triumphant. Remember visiting his website, he had some cool tips posted there. I remember he experimented with how much packing material he had on etc, and he ended up drilling six holes in each baffle, and kept 25% of the packing material. (That's why he used the hardware screen, to avoid the material to slip down the baffle under pressure)

Got long cannons on my bike and short slash on Karens. Love em! No issues!

Are you running with the baffles in? If not maybe the exhaust is whistling over one of the holes for the baffles.
