Not wanting to hijack the other airbox mod thread.

After seeing the results on Piemans website I was considering putting them on my Speedmaster.

What I want to know is, can they be installed without removing the airbox?

Has anybody tried it?

How much are you willing to cut away from the airbox? Anything will fit with enough cutting.

Come on John be nice.

I dont mind cutting into the airbox, what I am trying to find out is will they fit with the battery where it is and I dont want to cut to much out of the right side cover.

If they do fit, just bear in mind you probably wont get the optimum air flow with the air-box sides in the way.

I used to have a cut away airbox to make room for the k&ns and I had to cut a lot away just to fit those. Plus they were more of an oval shape. Those DNA pods are very long and very round they would protrude pretty far inside the sidecover on the right (if you could keep it fastened on still) and would most likely be impossible to fit on the left where the battery is.

Seems like the reason these filters are great is because they allow more surface area for air intake. So if theyre inside the sidecover you'd be cutting down on your total gain. At least on the right side anyway.

Zmilin said they won't fit with the Freak kit, but I don't know if that's because of the battery or something else. You might ask him. He sold me his pair of DND's but my battery is relocated similar to brokenfixed's bracket.

The DNAs are long. The reason they wouldn't fit was due to the bracing for the FREAK kit to be able to retain the side covers.
I did check both sides and the battery would also interfere on the left side.

The DNAs seem to be the perfect choice for the battery relo folks.
I think DNAs will make the battery relo look better too....not so much space.

Thanks for the input guys. I was hoping it would be as simple as just cuttin into the airbox and sliding them in. I have only seen pod filters in photos and you can't really see what you have to do. I like the bikes looks with the side covers where they are, but I would like to fit pod filters to increase performance.

I saw a thread a while ago where somebody fitted K&N Pods without removing the airbox.

I have searched and can't find what I am looking for.

Can anybody point me in the right direction

Ghetto Freak, you have to cut the box so there is room for the pods.

Another thing I noticed when looking at the pics. The DNA's are slightly angled to fit with the bonnevilles. Our carbs dont have that angle to them. So I'm thinking these will angle downward a bit and definately conflict with the battery.

Notice the plastic tab in this picture where it meets up with the edge of the k&n

Looks like more than an inch longer based on that plastic tab.

I was thinking even if there was a way to move the battery under the seat and make brackets to hold the side covers on...you'd have a hole of nothing where the battery used to be.
