My bike is in Seattle having carried me out there in September. I'm still planning my trip home but Plan A is shown below. This is three weeks riding going down the West Coast at least as far as LA then across and up to Ottawa. A big highlight of the trip will be a visit to Yosemite with my wife and daughter - It's a place I've always wanted to go. Also, I've driven part of that coast road but not ridden it. I'm hoping for good weather in late April and May. No fixed route or schedule for the leg east but I want to be back in Ottawa for May 24th to get my garden in. I was originally planning to do this early enough to make Georgia in time for the rally but I don't think so. I'll wave to you from Yosemite

I see a magnificent jaunt through Monument Valley in your future...I'm envious.

Yosemite is awesome. Went through there on my bike in 2007. My favorite picture: More snaps in my trip gallery.

I rode through Yosemite in -- ahem, don't snicker -- 1983 with two buddies. We putzed around the park so long that we were stuck for a place to camp and couldn't find a site until after 10 p.m. By then it was chilly cold riding, even in July. That night, to warm up (ahem again), we treated ourselves to shots of tequila. After midnight, now sound asleep, we all three bolted awake at the same time.
"What was that?" one of us said.
"Dunno. I sure thought I felt something."
"Me, too. Must have been the tequila talking."
Then back to sleep.
The next day, we stopped for breakfast out of the park. A local paper said we'd experienced an honest-to-goodness California earthquake. Nothing too serious. But a memory.
Ah, to be young again.

Bob, I believe I will be around then. With my Bubs finally back on (and the left one doesn't look too bad considering what it went through 2 years & 2 days ago), I am not embarrassed to be seen riding her now. And she finally sounds respectable. Count me in, weather permitting.

Just wondering when you might be heading to Yosemite? AmyLee and I live near Merced, the Gateway to Yosemite, at least they make that claim. If you like some company riding, the only problem is we'll be headed to Dwights place for the SWTF (Prescott,AZ.) by the 28th of April through the 2nd of May. FJ, has pictures of us in his trip album. Have a great time on your trip.

geez my timing sucks - If I'd done this a week earlier I could have hit the swtf on my way by.
We'll be in yosemite probably til Tuesday the 4th. I won't have my bike though I'm going to probably leave it in SF somewhere and we'll go up to yosemite in a van - I'm hoping to get BOTH my daughters and their boyfriends to fly into SF and come up to the park with us.
Still, if you're back on the 3rd and merced isn't too far from where we're staying I'll try to connect. We've been looking at this place http://www.yosemitelogcabin.com/ to accommodate all of us if you have an opinion. Sadly, from the map it's probably too far from merced.

Here's my slow-boat route down from Seattle to San Francisco taking five days to do what others might in one! Staying on I-5 down to the california border then over to the coast on 101 and 1. The slow pace gives me the opportunity to drop a day for weather or sightseeing or just to goof off.

nah...I didn't post anything.
I took 101 as far south as McKinleyville, 299 into Redding, 44 into Susanville...which is an "interesting" town. From there, 395 into Reno, and hopped on rte 50 across northern NV.

Ok, planning is becoming reality.
Thanks to Triumph of Tacoma for getting the bike ready for the trip and to Bob Rutledge for his excellent hospitality.
After an early night and an excellent breakfast bob led me on a morning outing to get my wheels under me. The bike feels GREAT with the steering head and chain issues fixed and the stale gas blown out. Can't wait to turn the nose of the Canadian Starship Ottawa south and start the trip for real.

Bill - Not sure when/if you will be getting this far south - as in Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Please let me know. I will PM my cell number. I am in Reno 4/28-5/3 and then back home. My schedule is a bit wacky currently, but with some advance notice I can try to meet up with you! Would be good seeing you again. I am also jealous of your trip! Becky

Thanks keith.
I'm in berkeley this morning, just across the bridge from san francisco. Gorgeous sunny day but still a bit cool. I'm just waiting a bit before hitting the bridge.
Busy day today: i want to hit a bike dealer, do some laundry, and put the bike in storage for the week then find our hotel and check in. Claire gets in this evening, sarah and jon tomorrow afternoon. The weather upcoming looks spectacular for yosemite.
The ride down from seattle was uneventful except for rain which i don't really mind if i'm dressed for it. I stayed inland because it was miserably cold on the coast. Sorry to miss the scenery but i'll pick up the coast south to la when i leave sf next week. Â From la i'll head east as far as flagstaff then north to utah for arches and canyonlands national parks. Becky: i guess i would hit flagstaff like may 11-13 - would that work?
Still planning to be home may 24th-ish.
