I'm looking for anyone who has installed the triumph footboards. i have run into a snag when you attach the footboard to the mounting bracket.... it dosent seem to want to snug down, its just not right...i'm using the stepped mounting bolts, nylon spacers, plastic washer, and locknut. seems like it needs another washer????? but not in the kit.... any help would be great! thanks.

Not sure it's meant to be snugged all the way down. My floor boards flop up and down real easy. Sure helps when you're leaned waay over.
I did add another rubber washer to each end to take up some of the slack.

that is what im thinking, to take up the slack.... they fold just fine , they just rattle..or would. odd that you would have to add a washer on a new item... thanks

I have them on my '09 America, and didn't like them flopping around either. Tried adding assorted shim washers, no joy. The fix is removing those two dainty short pivot bolts on each board and replacing them with one long bolt and nylock nut, passing thru both fore and aft frame brackets. I got the long stainless bolt and nut from West Marine, don't remember the length or size, but it's near 1/4-20 and you can measure the length needed. Much stronger and steadier.

BTW, the angle of those boards is much too flat for most riders. I will be posting pics of my fix for that soon.

Funny you should bring this up at this time 'cause I just got through making my floorboards work better. You can only tighten that bolt as far as the shoulder. But the boards are still loose and floppy, yes. A huge part of the problem is the holes in the boards are too large (the bracket holes are not as bad) for the bolt, allowing the bolt to move around in the hole. This is problem because the boards won't sit flat... they end up slanting down a bit which in turn throws the knees away from the bike and the rider has to tense leg muscles to keep the legs close to the bike. Over a long ride, this is a real drag.

So I made up some 1/8 steel spacers with tight bolt holes and added them on the nut side of the bolt. Now the bolt can't sit crooked in the holes which once again, would provide enough slack for the boards to rest at a downward angle.

The picture shows that the spacer I added fits tight between the underneath of the board and the bracket (when the board is down of course). So my boards now sit flat (90 degrees to the bike) and don't rattle.

Captain Obvious checks in:

The floor boards wobble to allow scraping the asphalt

(and other assorted mishaps of the horizontal variety)

Yep, you are ko-rect about the >90degree platform slant. Here is my humble fix, loose enough not to bind but not floppy (LSMFT,you know). The bolt is a 1/4-20 x 4.5" s/s with a nylock nut, both from West Marine. Works good, adjustable tension, looks good, no rust. No extra charge for me to shlep out in the monsoon to the shed to snap the pic. You still could prolly work in that neat 1/8" spacer tab.
