After looking at that retro beemer lately, it spurred an idea. So, in the never ending quest of trying to personalize my bike (but never deciding on anything yet!), I tried to add some of the flare I saw on that beemer. Basically, it would be some fender mods (possibly fiberglass) and white strips accents. Then powder coat the forks shrouds and the light bucket. Am I falling too far off the Triumph tree? Loosing that feeling of Triumph lines and it becoming a monster? Suggestions? Have a great weekend!

I like it but I would do the pin stripe on the tank more like the 60s beemer, rounded at the front and back making a continous loop.

If anything, I think you'd be climbing higher up the Triumph tree (going your own way) I agree with The Dog about rounding off the pinstriping on the tank, at least on the front, it looks incomplete to me

Thanks for the input. Yep, the idea is growing in me... and you were right, the tank was a weak spot. I came up with something else that I think looks better.

As the owner of both an America and an airhead beemer, I only have one thing to say: Why didn't I think of that first?
Seriously, that's sweet.

Yep, and line that pillion and sissy pad, too.

before i throw my 2c in, i want to preface this by stating thats its just an opinion, and one without malice. the bikes are completely different. to build a comparable BA version (IMO) you would have to do quite a few things.... lower the bike, drop the headlight about 5 inches, get huge fenders with long skirts to cut up, get thinner spoke rims of larger diameter, and you still dont have the huge design element which is the frame with those spars running alongside the tank. its a fine idea, please dont mistake my critique; all i'm pointing out is that to do it right will take alot of work.. short of that yer gonna end up with the "monster" that you fear. the R7 is art, thats why it never made production. its hard to reproduce art on a grand scale. our bikes (especially in our minds) are art as well, but poster art as compared to DaVinci.

Craig, I understand what you are saying, but... My idea was not to make a copycat beemer from a BA, but rather take some visual cues from it and apply it to the America to personalize my bike since it is still pretty much stock and not a reflection of myself yet. Others have been making their own carved seat, their own paint scheme, etc... I am just looking at stuff to show off my bike in a way that says: It's mine! Maybe it is because I have a ever changing personality, up to now, I haven't been able to stick with one design/idea... So far, this is the best I came up with and it seems it is still sticking in my mind and heart. As soon as I have some time, I will be starting on this "little" project... Still little tweaking to figure out some stuff here and there though. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, all of you. Quote:

Don't listen to Craig (no malice right back at you)... stick to your own inspiration and creative energy and RUN with it. But I'm still gonna steal your idea, especially on that front fender. Sweet!!!

Be my guest Keith, I didn't copyright the thing! ah ah! I'm glad you like it too. And anyway, the Pacific will separate our bikes, no chances on meeting up somewhere on the road! Let's see who finishes first! ha!
