I figure this has been discussed here before but I cant seem to find it Even though I check my tire pressures weekly my original front tire is ready for replacement at 7800 miles. Not much wear for a cruiser tire that expensive. Is this typical of the lazertec?
The rear tire looks to be good for another 7 or 8000 miles, seems odd to me that the wear would be so imbalanced.
Anyway I ordered a new ME 880 for the front today, I've never understood why they didn't use them as O.E. on both ends.

I have the same issue with the front tire. Seems to wear out after relatively few miles. Not sure what I should replace it with, but it would be nie to get a little more tire lifeout of the next one.

after mowing though several lazertec tires, I switched to the marathon for the front (same type as rear tire) so far so good.

I believe the Lasertech is a softer compound tyre designed to give you better grip - especially in the wet. Consequently it wears much quicker than the rear which is a cruising compound tyre.

While the ME880 on the front will last much longer I certainly wouldn't trust it in wet cornering because my experience of the rear ME880 was of very poor cornering grip in the wet. But if most of your riding is straight line freeway riding (or just dry riding) then go for the ME880) in the front.

Personally, I've ditched the Metzlers in favor of tyres that give me confidence in the wet.

Cheers, Richard

Strange. I got 15,000 miles out my Lazertecs on the front. I did switch to the ME880 for the front last time and I'm happy with it.
If I was riding in the rain a lot, I would opt for something else, but the 880s are great for me. When I do ride in the rain, I just slow down a bit and they're fine.

What tires did you go with? I've got almost 19,000 miles on my original Bridgestones and will probably need to replace them later this year. I was assuming the OEM tires used now would be the way to go.

Purchased April 2009 and currently showing over 14,131 miles on the front Spitfire

I would recommend the front spitfire. No cupping and you can still take your paws of the bars with no worries of DT's.

Thanks for the input, I ride pretty slow in the wet anyway and we've always recommended the ME 880's at the shop. So I guess I'll stick with them. I dont think we've ever sold a lazertec tire. I never liked the looks of the lazertec anyway. Just seems wrong to use tires with such different wear characteristics as a O.E. equipment. Especially since the traction difference doesn't seem to be that great.

I am with you. I am not a rain racer and I am replacing my now second lasertec with an ME880 on the front. I had 880s front and rear on my Suzuki several years ago and I liked the feel of the matched set better anyway.

Thom I might be wrong, I sometimes am.
