Yeah Rob, and lemme guess why!

"Cats" isn't playin' on Broadway anymore, I hear!!!

(yep, and now THAT takes away the only OTHER reason to go there anymore, huh???!!!)

When towing I used to tell people it was $300 extra just to cross the GW Bridge in addition to the tow charge.

Manhatten? Where's that? I'm familiar with Manhattan, and that's enough of a pain in the ******, but not Manhatten...

Eeh! I'm sure Mark was just joshin' ya there, Keith.

I mean, you know how those "New Yarkas" are, don't ya dude?!

Yep, always givin' folks a hard time tryin' to sound tough, but deep down inside they're just big ol' pussycats at heart!

(yep, it's kind'a like all those dentists you might see ridin' around on their Fatboys on Sunday and sportin' those do-rags on their heads...it's all about the "image", ya see)

Phew, thanks for explaining that for me Dwight!! And sorry Mark for jumpin' to conclusions. Out here in the West we're a bit (over) sensitive at times. So Mark... where's a good place to go for coffee?

So, why not take the train in?
If there's no train stop near your home, you could drive to one and still save the hassle & expense of driving into the city.
Once you're in, take the subway where you need to go. Easy.

I love driving in NYC, it's probably one of the easiest major cities to navigate thru. I sure wouldn't want to do it every day, but occasionally it's a hoot!

But, taking the train in is good advice if you don't relish driving. You can park at two places now on the NJ side and take the 5-10 minute ride into the city. I like the Statue of Liberty State Park station, you can park over night there for $5 I believe, and it is a safe and patrolled parking lot. You take the NJT train (ticket is included wit the parking fee) and than the PATH train into Penn Station.
Or park at the new facility in Secaucus (Exit 15x on the NJTP) and take the 2 minute NJ Transit train into Penn Station. I think the round-trip ticket is less than $5. I'm not certain on parking, but think it is probably not an overnight facility. I've used that train station plenty, but we stay at a nearby Marriott and use their shuttle for transportation.

Where in Germany is your wife from?

Yep, driving in the city is fine on a weekend but NOT on a weekday. It's just a waste of time with all the traffic.

Depending on where you're coming from, you can stay pretty far away from the city and take the train in. If coming from the NJ side there are oodles of stations with reasonable parking out in the suburbs. It's just the smart way to go.

And by the way there are TONS of nice watering holes and restaurants in that neighborhood. Walk over to 2nd Avenue and find a nice pub for lunch and a beer. Manchester Pub is only a block away.

Good luck!

Let me get this straight Kevin, your from New Jersey and are complaining about traffic in NYC?? Isn't that kinda like the pot calling the kettle black? I mean, some of the worst traffic jams I've ever lived through have been in Jersey for crying out loud. Not that Connecticut is really much better. I mean if you were from say Montana I might understand better. I actually think NYC driving is OK. It's not nearly as bas as trying to drive around Boston for example. I once was stuck in traffic in Boston until I figured out the truck in front of me was just parked right in the center lane of the street. others had already parked in the right hand lane and you know the center lane is as good a place to park as anywhere right??

Oh, I wasn't complaining. I'm just not driving into the city on a weekday. It's a huge waste of time.

I also avoid driving east of the I-287 loop in NJ whenever possible.

And that includes CT.

Yeah, you're right Kevin, CT is almost just as bad as NY these days in terms of traffic. No arguments from me on that point. I guess the NJ traffic feels worse to me cause I don't know any of the local shortcuts so when I get stuck in traffic, I just have to wait it out.

Just a guess, but the consulate probably doesn't open until 9 AM. And whatever you're doing will be taking more than 10 minutes.
Then you're screwed.
Take the train, really.

6:30 traffic isn't bad at all...you should get in with a minimum hassle. You should be able to make your way over to the UN relatively quickly once you get into town.

As long as you get out of town before 2:30, there shouldn't be any issues there either.
