I am looking for a tank bag to use when touring. Would prefer a magnetic one. Anyone find one that fits our tanks well? Something with a clear map top?

I have the Cortech Super Mini, magnetic version.

It fits fine, but is a bit small. It sat right where you see it for over 5,000 miles at interstate speeds.

Cci, What do have on the saddle? I'm looking for something to ease the miles on the rear.

Most bags should fit fine. Mine also doubles as a backpack. There are tons of options.
I stopped using mine on the tank, because I had to be super careful, or it would put tiny scratches on the tank, and if you ride even a small gravel road, the dust gets under it too.

I personally can't bring myself to mounting a tank bag of any sort. I'd be majorly upset with even the slightest of scratches on the tank. But I can see why people like them... they do appear to be rather convenient.

I'm with Mountainman on this one ...... Tank bags lead to scratched tanks.... never a good thing. Between installing and removing the bag and dust buildup under the bag you're guaranteed to damage your paint, ever seen what throw over bags do to a rear fender? Same effect with a tank bag but to a lesser extent.

I have the FS Eiffel II tank bag #470-1063.

Has two bags (Med & Sm) with a large flat base (making 3 seperate componets with clear tops, but the "base" has to be used always as this has the magnets). All bags have a clear map pocket on top and attach to each other with zippers to form a combo of arrangements. I mainly use the Sm bag for short runs (work: bike lock, planner & sack lunch, it will hold my half helmet while at work).

I prefer to mount the bag on the rear fender, as I ride solo most of the time. Magnets (8) are strong and I have no issues with performance of the bag(s) and for my needs serve them well. I have never used them in the rain and can't tell you if they would be good or flat out terrible. They also have a 3M refletive pipping around them & some varrious stow pockets inside, each are also expandable and have head phone access (never used), and lastly they are felt linned.
I paid just under $100 USD July 2009 from my bike shop.

I have the Cortech Super Mini, magnetic version also.
I do fine it a little small. But have never had any trouble with losing it or it straching the tank. It has held on I-90 in South Dakota with 30 mhp winds & gust.
Only thing I don't like about it, is that you have to put a rain cover over it. The cover, covers over the map, than your back to trying to remember where it is you need to go.
(missed the turn to my friends house in the Cinni area and ended up wasting 40 mintues to get back where I needed to be. I hate it when it rains.)

Sorry I didn't see this question sooner.

I have a BeadRider seat on there. It works really well on long, hot trips.

I used a Snider's Paint Guard on the tank to prevent scratches. It worked perfectly.
