hi all, im trying to put lower progressive springs in my 06 speedmaster and i cant get the damper rod out, its turning when i turn the allen bolt on bottom of fork leg, is there any way or a tool that can stop this? on the springs instructions it says it got to come out to put new short springs on instead of the stock ones, any help would be appreciated, thanks

Remove fork caps and any spacers, gently copmress forks and remove springs slowly, so as not to lose oil. Then simply slide new springs in place and replace original spacers/end cap etc. Only need to to undo damper rod if splitting forks, ie replacing fork seals etc.

If you have the Progressive lowering kit then you do need to remove the damper rod from the lower leg.
Try this......get an old wooden broom handle that has a taper on one end. Set the lower leg on a rag on a solid surface (concrete) and pound the taper end down into the top of the damper.
Either hold the wooden handle with a pair of channel locks while removing the bottom bolt or invert and clamp the wooden handle in a vise.
Worked for me when the whole assemble spun trying to remove.

I put a lowering kit in one of my other bikes. An impact was the only thing that would do it for me.

thanks for the help, i went and bought a 18v battery impact driver, rammed a broomstick in the fork tube to hold the damper rod, held the broomstick tight in vice, then used the impact driver and out popped the retaining bolt, once again thanks for the help
