From a press release issued by ImpleMedia Communications:
Ray Price Harley-Davidson® Announces A New Partnership with Triumph® Motorcycles
Ray Price ends long-standing relationship and adds new partner
RALEIGH, N.C. — Ray Price Harley-Davidson®, the largest Harley-Davidson dealership in the Southeast, is proud to announce a new partnership with Triumph® Motorcycles. Triumph replaces long-time road-bike partner, Buell® as the company has ceased production of consumer motorcycles. The Ray Price Road Racing Team will switch to riding Triumphs beginning with Bike Week 2010, Daytona Beach, February 26-28.
“We enjoyed a long and friendly relationship with our former partner,†said Ray Price, founder and owner of Ray Price Harley-Davidson and primary sponsor of the Ray Price Nitro Harley and Road Race Teams. “However, we are thrilled to be entering into an affiliation with such a well known and highly respected motorcycle builder as Triumph. I am confident that our Road Racing team will continue to enjoy tremendous success riding their new machines.â€

Wow! It doesn't actually say they are going to sell Triumphs but that their road racing team will use Triumphs. I thought Triumph had some rule about being sold in a dealership that handled some other brands. Is it just Japanese brands since they are commonly sold with BMW? If they do sell them at an HD dealer it would be nice if it caught on in a lot of places. At least would be a larger dealer network. Of course that also would have some downsides....

I have seen a couple of dealers that sold Japanese bikes as well as Triumph but figured they were 'grandfathered' in if there was such a rule. The rule thing was just something I heard... Somewhere on here??

Ah, so Dave didn't tell me about the 'rule'. That only leaves a couple hundred suspects on here.

I have a feeling that, if there is a corporate objection to such a partnership, it's on the part of HD. The main objection the local HD dealership has to taking on Triumph is the cost of training and having to have double the number of tools, one set metric and one set inchic.

The Triumph dealer in Hartford consolidated Triumph and ducati within the Harley dealership. Times are tough, I guess they couldn't afford all those separate rents.

I totally agree. HD in their massive growth period where they were selling all they could make, starting making competitive sales demands on their dealers. The local HD dealer here used to sell Triumph, but were forced to give it up by Harley. After that it was only Harley and Buell.
The only demand Triumph started making was that the dealers set up a special area for Triumph only with approved paint colors, etc. Most Triumph dealers in the U.S. sell other brands. If they didn't, they probably wouldn't survive. My Triumph dealer also sells Ducati, KTM, Royal Enfield (if still around) and Hyosung. I have also seen a number of Triumph, BMW, Ducati combination dealers.

Thensley knows the Triumph dealership in Eldorado Springs, MO sells Yamahondsaki's along with Victory. The one here in KC (Engle Motors) is the BMW/Triumph.

Eurosport in Coopersburg, PA sells Triumph, Ducati, Aprilia, and Vespa.
Martin Motorsports in Boyertown sells Triumph, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Yamaha.
DeSimone Motorsports in Cherry Hill, NJ sold Triumph, BMW, Ducati, Victory, and Lehman. (They just closed up shop though).
SO around here it doesn't look like there is any rule that Triumph dealers be monoline dealers. Although Manayunk Triumph in Philly is Triumph only.

I think Indian would be a GREAT line to sell in the same showroom with Triumphs. Triumph has the sport bikes, classics, etc. Indian a classic V-twin cruiser. You would have both concepts and more heritage than HDs (1901 & 1902 vs. 1903).

I don't know about this, folks! This whole thing kind'a reminds me of when I was a teenager years ago and that one summer my cousin Rob came to visit us here in California. He was better lookin' AND a better athlete than I was, and I remember how friggin' jealous I eventually became of that rat b*stard because of all the attention he got from everybody, INCUDING my girlfriend Susie, and how much I just wanted him to go back home after just a couple of weeks! (yep...and sooooo I can JUST imagine how those poor Harley-Davidson motorcycles are gonna feel once those Triumphs move in with 'em too!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I think one of the things we are all seeing is that motorcycle dealers of most all types are going out of business and that there will be a lot of consolidation of more brands in fewer dealerships. The main question I had was is HD to the point that they would allow dealers to branch out to other brands. Buell passing by the wayside does open some parts of the market out of the reach of current HD offerings. But then if I could see the future I'd have to have a warehouse to house all the bikes I could afford.
