Today, while riding down the freeway, I noticed oil coming out by the left, rear side, by the head gasket. Anyone ever had this happen? The bike ran good. No loss of compression. Maybe a bolt became loose?

check to make sure its not your oil cooler line leaking and blowing back.

Happy Birthday!

And check your cam cover to make sure it isn't the source of the leak......

If your head gasket were blown, you'd soon be hearing a pffft, pffft, pffft sound - which would get louder as you continue riding (probably over several days). Also, you should be able to feel the hot exhaust with your hand at the point of the "leak".

Lots of good suggestions above. I trust you've already checked them out on your bike.

I'll check all of the above, but someone else will have to be my ears....I've been 90% deaf since birth. Yes, as of 12/15! I'll let ya know what I find. Thanks.

More than likely Grump and Trash are correct, it's either the CAM cover gasket or Oil cooler lines. I had both happen and the oil will spray over the bike especially on the highway.

Ask me about oil line fittings sometime.... Check those first! Also, if and when you do clean up the oil line fittings, make sure there's no oil in the webbing of the cooler that can still blow back into the motor. I've had oil on my choke knob from those ****** things.

Well, sure enough, it was a head gasket. It's weird how it ran good, and sounded good. whatever was the cause, the GREAT Triumph dealer I deal with in San Diego, ROCKET TRIUMPH went ahead and replaced ALL the gaskets for free. They adjusted the valves too. What a blessing. I'm taking off early so I can take the long way home. YAHOOOO!

Sounds like they took care of you. I wonder why the head gasket let go. Did they give any details on what they found?

Could also be that they simply called it a head gasket to suck up the warranty juices.

member nobby (Shaun) gave Lynn and I each, a T'Shirt from Rocket Cycles. Nice T's. And from the sound of it, nice dealer too!

They saw a defect on the head. Took it in to be fixed by a machinist, and replaced all the gaskets to be sure, cuz they couldn't get it do it again. We knew it came from the head cuz you can tell a wet gasket after a leak. All new gaskets, and copper washers were replaced. The valves, and carbs were done too. All I paid for was the valve shims. They didn't make money on the deal, but won a loyal customer from now on.

Anyone put the chrome cam covers on. I can see how, if you don't get that gasket on correct, that there would be accidental leakage ...

Sounds like a good dealer and a fair job. Anyone else had trouble with the head gasket?
