Check & clean all connections at your coils.

If still happening switch coils and see if the problem moves to the other side.

Switch leads check again.

This happened to me. Hope it isn't your problem.

Blown Igniter.

Classic symptoms of a bad igniter. Do a search on this site in the miscellaneous forum in the technical section (where this thread will be moved to).

John Wayne! Do I win a cdi? Or a bowl of grits?

I had a coil cause that symptom. what was weird was it exhibited as a dirty idle circuit. Not at speed or heavy demand. Swap the spark plug wires first. Then the coils. Located a member who has a like cdi to confirm the need for procom.

Been there.

Not fun.

Got the tear stains to prove it.

If the wires look good, you might want to cut to the chase by borrowing a known good igniter and swap it out to see if that eliminates the problem. If you decide to go the swap test route and discover it is the igniter, check back with us. Its often possible to get them replaced out of warranty for free. Can't hurt to ask.

ok ,,yet another test,,i changed around the wire at the coils and the problem stayed on the right(throttle side)..does that elimate the ignitor coil as a problem?
and by the way thanks for all the advice i appreciate it all!

If it does turn out to be an igniter, Triumph gave me one for my 2005 / 30,000 mile Speedmaster in Spring of '09. I even did the freebie over the phone with a dealer 300 miles away from me. (I have no local or other Triumph dealership relation, as I bought the bike used near the VT / Canadian border.)

A dealer may try to sell you an igniter for a discounted $500. If that happens, ask the dealer to put it through to Triumph as a "goodwill claim." The key phrase is apparently "goodwill claim." I've heard two separate dealers use that term with regard to out of warranty issues.

The fact that we have to ask for the semi-secret goodwill claim is another story, but I won't go there. I'm hoping I can get 30,000 miles out of the new igniter before I go madman again, and by then they might only cost $190.

Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

That points more to the igniter as the issue. Get the procom unit that Dave pointed you to.
