Ok, so I'm in the market for an open face 3/4 helmet. I've ridden with an HJC SY-Max (L) for the past ten years (yep, I got one when it they first came out) and I feel it's the best modular helmet on the market, even though I haven't tried the SY-Max II. So, today I tried an HJC CS-5N (L), not a bad fit but gosh I felt like a mushroom head! Then I tried the HJC CL-31 (M). The medium felt/fit just as tight as the Large CS-5N. Any comments? I would have thought the same size open-face helmet, from the same manufacturer would have felt the same. Has anyone else noticed this difference?

My first helmet was an HJC large but I actually fit best in my Medium Scorpion. Every helmet model and maker is different. If you have a place near you that has a large selection of helmets, go try them all on. They are a very personal purchase so you need to try them all, but only buy ht eone in the box which has never been dropped.

One more thing...I love my 3/4 Scorpion helmet in the summer because it is designed to hold water to help you cool down in the heat. Not a horrible price either.

Last fall I bought the HJC 3/4 with full shield and drop in sun visor. I absolutely love it and now use it as my winter and longer travel helmet. I usually use a 1/2 helmet during warm weather. Here's a link to the HJC helmet.

As far as size I had a medium on my previous helmet and went with a medium on this helmet which was just a hair tighter but fit better. I tried on all the HJC and Scorpion models before buying. I would definitely try them on first.
