I'm enjoying the Olympics more tonight. Forgive me, but I just find Curling to be completely NOT thrilling!

Kind of wish they had ice racing like when my husband and I took the boys to watch Motorcycles, Quads and go karts race, and a show with sport bikes doing tricks on ice.

The girl didn't want to go and watch, saying she was only interested if she was allowed to compete.

Curling would be awesome with snipers.

Sniper - I like it!

Curling
Who in their right mind thought one winters day, 'I know what we'll do, we'll throw a rock over that frozen lake and see how close we get to that other rock, Morag - get the brushes!'
The desire to play this fruitless game (its NOT a sport) qualifies you for crimpoline trousers, nylon shirts and your grandads cardi.

I think we should combine it with ice hockey

Hmmm.... Ice hockey on skis with a big granite puck and in between periods you have to shoot a target.

Sounds like you missed the Swedish women's team the other evening

I think just about every sporting event could be improved with snipers. Why stop at curling? NASCAR. The Superbowl half-time show. Figure skating. Limitless possibilities.

Ice racing would be good. A long time ago, they used to race skaters against "Cupie (SP?) cars on an oval ice track. The cars were smaller than a midget racer and larger than a quarter midget.
Curling might be alright if they crossed it with quidich.

Friarjohn I like the way you think..Ski jumping with snipers.....hhmmmm now thats something I could watch.

As you say why stop their..Top of my list would be golf! (Come on think of the sense of achievement it would be to make it to the 18th) Ohh and Cricket lets not forget that god awful boring bat and ball game.

I also think the winter Olymipics could be spiced up a little, like womans beach volley ball, weight lifting on a frozen lake, the high jump in soft snow,(think about it) vaulting over an angry polar bear and lets not forget hypothemia table tennis

Of course for the junior athletes you could have them (the snipers) use paintball rifles... just for training purposes, of course.

Maybe we should start with biathlon, already have rifles so the cost of entry would be low.

I think Olympic creed or whatever it's called is to permit only sports that don't involve taking a life--snipers would have to shoot to maim only...

Andy Rooney opined on 60 Minutes last Sunday night regarding the Biathlon "why should we give rifles to skiers...we don't give them to hockey players".

So far I enjoyed the U.S./Canada hockey game the best and it wasn't even being shown on the major networks who seem intent on showing curling matches end on end.

Curling is like watching super slo-mo shuffleboard. 10 rounds per match! Got to be the slowest moving sport there is. Can't imagine why they would rather televise snail races over hockey.

I say they combine ice racing and curling . . . as the bikes race 'round the track, folks on the sidelines try to unseat them with the curling stones!! I'd pay to see that!

Hey, I used to BE a figure skater, even have a first place pin for it...Actually a little evading snipers might have made it more fun and I may have stuck with it longer! Hee hee hee! Love shooting sports, so it may have been even better if I could glide, twirl, FIRE! Ha ha ha ha!

Funnily enough we were talking about other sports they could have at the winter olympics, some quite sensible, others, errrr not so.

We thought that ice climbing might be quite good, the quickest to climb a route along an icewall.

Snow shoeing. You have to snow shoe up a mountain side.

A combination event along the lines of downhill ski, biathlon (back to an elevated level) and then either skeleton or luge down to the finish. We decided this should be called the James Bond event.

But then it just disintegrated.....the ski cross, instead of using ski poles - take baseball bats down with them.

Plastic bag racing down the bobsleigh run.

A cross between the ski jump and barfly. The competitors have to dress in velcro suits and attach themselves to a big wall at the end of the jump. Most points wins.

Otherwise everyone at work has been raving about how good the ski cross and snowboard cross events were - definetly a good winter spectator sport.

USA hockey team just beat the Swiss 2-0 to make it into the final 4! They are looking really good. US men and women are out of the curling. I guess they just couldn't move slow enough.

I do like the Olymics because of all the stories and being the very best, strongest, fastest athlete out there in the game. Just that curling seems like a chess competition compared to downhill skiing and such. I still think Motorcycle ice racing would be fun to watch too.
