Saw the Honda Fury It's a turd. ..and finally, I saw the Thunderbird...I sat on it... It was not love at first sight. Perhaps after a ride I'd feel differently...but first impressions were: "Meh.. big tank"

+1 on both. When I first saw the Fury ads, I thought it looked really cool. In person it didn't look that good. Lots of plastic, looked cheap, etc.
I went to Daytona last year to look at the 4 Thunderbirds that were being shown and sat on 3 of them. I have not ridden one, but the Triumph truck will be in Pensacola in March and I may go ride one. After looking closely at the Thunderbird, I fell in love all over again with my America. It's tricked out the way I want and with the BB kit, I have all the power I need. The tank did look VERY big and so did the windshield option. My guess is that it's appearance may change slightly and an additional version may appear. I'll keep looking, but for now, I'm still love the way my own bike looks and rides.

+2. I went to my Honda dealership and sat on that Fury. What a piece of crap. It looks like a toy in person.
And like you...I think the Thunderbird might improve over the years but for now, it made me realize how perfect my bike feels and looks in comparison.

Thought much the same about the Fury - Cheap stab at an assembly line custom (An oxymoron in itself). My only beefs with the Bird are that tiny headlight and the width of the saddle at the point where it meets the tank and the width of the tank at that same location. It forces my legs out beyond what is comfortable. Kinda makes me look and feel like a $10 crackwhoreonasaturdaynight.

I rode a Thunderbird last October at Barber. Good power, handles great, but the buzzing in the handlebars was a killer. The half hour test ride was all I could take.

That Honda 1300 is an ugly motor. Not that the 1800 is any easier on the eye, but I'm not sure why they wouldn't throw that in there. It's right next store in the parts bin.
Also, I've ridden to 1300s, and it's a dog. Granted, my speedy is a bit of a tweaker, but the big Honda feels pretty slow by comparison.
On top of that, while I think, for what it is, that flat grey Fury looks cool enough, pretty sloppy welds on the one I saw.
