Has anyone come across a tank bag to fit on the Speemaster/America? I have always used one on other bikes for long trips, especially to hold the maps but the standard ones cover the tacho, warning light etc any ideas? Regards

I got a tankbag for my America without thinking about the tach. There was always one on my Trident and it got to the point I couldn't go without. The tankbag was a great deal on Ebay, so I got it. It's about the same as a Tourmaster expandable strap-on. I haven't tried it yet, but would like to be able to lose the backpack (that I end up putting in the saddlebag anyway). I also just got a volt health light that will go in one of the empty holes in the console, that will be useless with a bag. But hey, it's a nice bag!

I have a Nelson Riggs Tank Bag that fits really well. It's also the correct colors Black with Red and Silver trim. For the life of me I cannot remember the model number. This tank bag was geared more toward a sport bikes application.

How ya doing Martyn, a tank bag that will work fine for the Speedmaster is the Tourmaster Cortech Super Mini Magnetic Tank bag. I tried one out at a dealership that had both the bag and the Speedmaster, and it fits fine, just under the nacelle of the gas tank, terminating short of the seat front. I almost bought one, before I realized that I wouldn't be able to stow the things that I wanted to throw in there (ie. cell phone, palm pilot, wallet) the magnetic mount system would screw all that stuff up, so I just rely on the saddlebags, and tape maps and directions on to the tank.

Here's another option from SaberGear. It's called a thigh pack. I bought one and the quality is very good. I wear it on the left where I can get to it easily. Holds a ton of stuff. http://www.sabergear.com/

Search the archives for Cortech Super Mini Magnetic tankbag. It's a perfect fit for the TBA/SM and a great product to boot.

Do the tank bags scuff the tank's finish over time? It's got to be difficult to keep grit from lodging between the tank and the attachment points.

Yep. Get one of those sheer mask tank protectors. I got one that is so thin and clear you can't see it unless you really look.

Thanks for that I should have come here first instead of crawling round the local bike shops but at least it was an excuse to get out on the SM (Like a need one!) Thanks again

Thanks for the info, do you just use the magnetic fixing & not the strap?. I looked up the archives & noted the comments on the map pocket size, I don't know whether to just go with just the map bags or your bag Thanks again for your help

For the Cortech Super Mini Magnetic, I just use the magnets. They're stout. I use the same bag (with Sirius radio attached to the outside making it even heavier) on my KLR650. I've dropped that sucker in the mud a couple of times and the tank bag hasn't come off If you're worried, there's a safety strap included (along with a rain cover).
