One of the things I like about the America I am getting is that it is a respectable bike. When I rode my husband's Speedmaster, guys admired it and commented that it seemed like a lot of bike for a girl like me...Grrrrr!!! I really thought the bike was awesome and was making plans to switch bikes on him. Figured that since the Honda ws also black he wouldn't notice right away, but he said no.

My little Honda gets the comment about being a cute little scooter, or I'm asked if it wants to be a Harley when it grows up. Sigh! Most of the time it's just the guy's way of saying they are glad to see me ride my own, but can't be nice about it, I might think they are ok kind of people and it would ruin thier pain in the butt reputations!

Anyone here ever get that sort of ribbing?

One guy called my bike cute. He is buried somewhere east of Eureka Springs, AR in several trash bags.

CynMcA, I don't think I WANT my America to be called cute. I can sort of accept it when directed at me, when I'm in girley playful mode, and I accept it when I'm "Being cute" meaning I've just taken being a smart (bleep) to the level of getting this verbal warning that a beating shall be next. Hee hee!
As far as referencing my bike as cute, it just seems wrong. I know it becomes an extention of me, but I wold prefer cool, or nice, or awesome.
To me, cute describes the tricycle my parents got me when I was little.

Hmmmmm..."cute" you say, Laurie? Has anyone ever told me my bike was "cute"?

Well...no, not that I remember anyway.

However I DID once have a down-on-his-luck and out-of-work lexicographer walk up and tell me that he thought my bike looked "elysian"!!!

(...and THEN the guy walked over to my Harley riding friend and told HIM he thought HIS bike looked overly "ostentatious"!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Hi Laurie, welcome to the girls Triumph club. No one has ever called my bike cute. I've heard nice, awesome, retro, and such. I just love it. Hubby bought it for me 6 years ago, a told me I had to get my license. I did, and am I glad.

Thanks AmyLee. I bought my Shadow and had to watch the dealer ride it home for me because I didn't have my endorsement yet. I wish I'd known about Triumph, because I would have bought my America then! I know it will give me years of enjoyment.

Anyone have their bike referred to as "Cute"?

No, but my 19 year old daughter has referred to the Speedmaster as being 'butt ugly'.

Of course, she also thinks that my little '73 VW Beetle is the most hideous vehicle ever produced in automotive history, and any vehicle that is more than 5 years old is a 'junker', so her opinion might not be completely representative.

Cheers,
Brad

Well, cute you ask? No... not in reference to my Trumpet for sure. But pretty? Yes, I get THAT from time to time, and I have to agree. She really is a pretty girl and enjoys it when I come bearing gifts and trinkets. She loves to dress up and I love to show her off so yeah... pretty to be sure.

Big difference that... between cute and pretty. Cute is almost condescending. Works for a baby or puppy but... well, you get my point.

hum. first thing that comes to mind is yota. then purty lips.

My Neighbor's daughter, Madison has nicknames for my prefires. She refers to Vera Lynn as wasp. Cinnamon girl is Lady Bug. Vera Lynn having a naked rear fender and micro signals ,I can see the wasp reference. Cinnamon Girl’s red/black theme does mesh with lady bug allusions. Funny how innocent minds work.

So Mrs. Winslow, even if someone kicks a bit of dirt on either motorsickle or heaven forbid kicks em over, or spits in me eye, they have not as of yet been called cute.

Just curious... Do you have the same tassles on your bikes handlebars like you did on your tricycle?

Hehehe... I'm gonna get it now!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?

Nope...been called a 'nice bike', 'sweet ride' and 'bad @$$ machine', but never cute. Couple of guys stopped at a light leaned out their pick-up and said, 'that looks better than a Harley'...can't argue with that.

I think of her as beautiful and powerful...great lines and some muscle where it's needed.

Anthropomorphic? Yup!

Overall, just one of life's many pleasures...fun to ride and pleasing to the eye

Not "cute" no.
"Nice" and other such compliments

I've even seen a crowd gathered around her at the last RTTW which was chock full of Harleys and I know one bloke traded in his jap sporty thing for an America after seeing mine in town

When my bike was new, I took a trip with 3 guys to Hot Springs. They trailered their bikes (a $30,000 dollar Big Dog; An old Yamaha 1100 and a V-twin Suzuki) and I follwed on my TBA. Well at a gas stop a couple of young ladies came over and said what a "cool bike" completely ignoring the Big Dog. Boy was he mad, but he did not say anything. So I've heard Cool, Nice bike, but never cute. I was lying about burying a dead guy in AR. As Thom said I just focus on avoiding dogs.

A VERY attractive 20 something redhead called my bike cute a few years ago. As I recall I let it slide.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
