Hi All

I have a faulty rear brake light switch. The rubber boot that protects the switch was torn; this allowed water into the unit and corroded one of the connectors.
I’ve bought a new switch and boot but not being mechanically minded I’m just wondering if this a simple job that is within my capabilities?
I’ve had a read of the Haynes manual and it seems straight forward but I just want to check with you guys in case there are and hidden issues.

The main dealer quoted £45.00 plus brake fluid @ £5.00 to do the work.

Is this a job for the trainee mechanic or something that needs to be done by a trained mechanic?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Don't even attempt this change out until you have at least two banjo bolt washers in your grubby hands.

Easiest way to work on the switch is from the right side of the bike while the bike is on the sidestand not on a jack. Great angle of view and real easy to get it all cleaned up. Don't want any debris around when the switch comes off so the new one can go right back on. (With spanners, hold the junction and spin the switch.) Two new oem sealing washers (banjo washers) and one new switch. Lost about 4 teaspoons of brake fluid. (1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon). I didn't have to bleed the system afterward either. Can't really get a torque wrench on the switch (15Nm) but 15Nm is an easy feel.
