Same engine, same frame, same front and rear sprockets. Speedmaster is heavier. Which is why it needs twin brakes

It depends on what oil you use. Which one is best?

I make my own oil. Yeah, it takes a long time, but I save 14 cents per quart.

America don't exist anymore. the very essence of them has been lost. No wire spoked wheels, tank indents, 790 motors, slash cut pipes. grrr. Today speedies and america are bafu.

The difference between Speedmaster and America owners, judging by this thread, is that Speedmaster owners are more likely to own a Corvette or perhaps even a Porsche 911. And we all know the difference between a Corvette or 911 owner and a porcupine... Aw, c'mon, don't pout. It was funny.

Moe hit the nail on the head here he said the essence had been lost in the America. The fact that they don't come with the spoked wheels anymore is a sin. That was the greatest distinguishing factor between the two very cool bikes in their own rights.

As much as I like the alloys on the America, I have to agree with you (two) completely. The wire spokes rule.

Any of you ever read that Dr. Seuss story about star-bellied sneeches? I feel like I just stepped into that story.

I love the look of a laced wheel too. They are a pain to clean but sure look pretty when they are. In that regard my America rules in this court.
