You know, yesterday I went in to the most local dealer here in Canandaigua, NY and inquired about mayhaps trading in and getting a newer Trump. Well, the dealer comes right out and says he don't want my steenkin trade cause it ain't worth nuttin. Then he quotes me the cost of the bike I asked about as full retail, no discount and that is if it is a cash deal only. I ask him why the bike they sold me is worthless now and if so, why the heck would I want to buy another of the same brand if they are also soon to be worthless?? Is the brand that bad I ask? He shrugs and continues with his daydreaming that i was obviously interupting. I then tellz him that this is why we all deal with Buck's over in Beefalo now. They could care less about my business it appears.I just shook my head and walked out the door. Man, I tells ya, some dealers just plain suck, and then some just outright blow.

Talk to Paul (PES) as he is looking for a motorsickle. A couple of years back my front tire needed balancing and your Canandaigua dealer said to come back in a day or two. 2000 miles from home and he gave me the brush off.

That's terrible. Bad for the brand, bad for the dealer, bad for the salesman's commission check.

Dealers like this ruin the rep for a lot of people. I'd hope he goes under, but that makes it harder to find parts. Luckily, it sounds like you have another dealer to go to. Truth is, around here for 50 miles in any direction, the dealers are the same as that di*k, except for my good friend and local old time Triumph afficianodo, shop owner, Ron Timkin. Unfortunately, he doesn't handle new bikes anymore, although his excellant mechanic does work on them.

Great thing about capitalism. The system is self-correcting. He'll be out of business (or at least the Triumph business) soon enough.

I had the opposite experience last summer - I was surprised at the trade offer I got for my 04. Maybe they liked the fact that I hadn't removed the AI?

Dealers like that when they do go under are usually screaming the longest and loudest about bad customers ,no loyalty and such and give a bad name to the bike brand When it is there fault no one wants to deal with them

I've just googled "Triumph motorcycle dealer in Canandaigua NY", and got this response: _________________________________________________________ Canandaigua Motor Sports: Canandaigua New York Motorcycle Dealer Canandaigua Motor Sports is a Canandaigua, New York motorcycle dealer selling Motorcycles from Honda,Suzuki,Triumph. ___________________________________________________ And soooooo, I have a sneaky feelin' here I just might know where the problem truly lies! (uh huh...can you say, "multiple brand dealership", boys and girls?!) Okay, that's probably not all of the problem here, BUT for some reason I've noticed whenever they seem to "co-mingle" Triumphs and the offerings from the Rising Sun ESPECIALLY, the salesmen in those shops tend to, let's say, "not give Triumphs their due"!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

No kidding. That sounds like Roadhouse Triumph here in Tulsa. When I had my wreck 2 weeks before the ARK rally in Sept. they were absolutely worthless helping me out. They wanted $1000 deposit just to order the parts and then found a bent fork later and were wanting 4.000 plus to fix a bike with a bent wheel and just a bump on the fork. They then offered to sell me a used 03 America that needed a new chian and tires, with 18,000 miles for $4600 and would not budge from that price. If it wasn't for THensley I would have missed the rally I planned, or taken my truck. I was in Roadhouse a couple of weeks ago and no one even acknowleged my presence. I guess they just don't want to sell any bikes. I will go 90 miles to Performance Triumph/Suzuki in OKC for my next new Triumph. Roadhouse Victory/Indian/Triumph/Polaris.

Same deal here.. we have two dealerships locally; one Hardly dealership, and the other one is a supermarket 'we serve every brand under the sun except Hardly' dealership. The guys prices seem to be along the line of MSRP + 20% just for having to look at you. I only go there to touch and feel stuff that I will then purchase elsewhere. A few years back when I was looking for a Speedmaster, they quoted me close to $10K out the door (MSRP was what, $8500 or so) on what they claimed was a 2005 model which then turned out to be a 2004!
Cheers, Brad

I went into my local stealership here in OZ for a gasket.
Tha arrogant owner said to me "told you to buy a Harley"
My reply was "I only came in for a gasket, if I had bought a Harley I would be buying the bits that keep falling off"
He just turned around and walked off, Arrogant Afr*****karner.

Their other brands don't get handled much better. Back when I rode a Suzuki I called there several times for parts and they said, "We don't have that - try Stone's Snow Sleds." (Stone's is an ATV/snowmobile/Suzuki dealer in the middle of freaking nowhere, a few miles from my house.)
If you saw the sheer mass of Far Eastern hardware at Canandaigua, versus the eight or ten Triumphs in the showroom, you wouldn't be surprised that there's not much love there for the Brits.
Dave
P.S. Thanks for the lead on the Buffalo dealership. D.

Some people just lack in social skills... and all too often it seems such people end up in dealerships. Weird!!

There seems to be alot of that going around with Triumph dealerships. Ed's Service in Hyde Park, NY has been around for a very long time but for the life of me, I can't understand why. Ed's such a crotchety old git, he doesn't give a rats butt whether he gets your business or not. I walked in there in '77 with a cashiers check in my hand to pick up a new Bonnie & he was so mean to me I came very close to tearing up that check in front of him & walking out the door. Only reason I didn't is cuz I wanted that bike SO ****** bad. Needless to say, that's the only bike I ever bought from him. The only thing I get there now is parts. He's mellowed some in the last 30+ years but he can still be a real prince & absolutely refuses to work on any bike that's not 100% stock.
'07 Triumph America - 153 mains, 45 pilots, airbox gone, '71 650 chop, '04 America powertrain for chop being built now.

Maybe he's just misunderstood. I thought the dealer in Missoula was an ******, but then I got to know him...
Of course, spending over 10K at his dealership probably softened him up a little.

Pat,
No one else asked the question, but Ive got to know. What are you looking to buy? Tbird? Another Speedy? Something else?
If I were gonna by a new one today(starting to consider the idea, but probably a yr or 2 away), I would probably head out to Destiny Motorsports in Syracuse. I'm not gonna tell you you will get a great trade in, but there arent many Triumph only dealers out there. I went out to take a look at the Tbird this summer. Nice folks, and I heard they are going through some tough times right now.

Been dealing with the same dealer for many years now, he sells BMW as well as Triumph but his father and mother sold Triumph from the same location. I used to deal with them too before his son took over. They have always taken good care of me and are good people.

You gotta wonder how some of these dealers survive when their motto seems to be, "We'll sell you a _____________, if we feel like it."

Carl, Been over to Destiny a few times as well, very knowledgeable and helpful as well. Was kinda lookin to maybe get a Bird, but the better half says no, so we know where this ends up eeh? Me sleeping in the shed with my new bike? Or staying happily married and being allowed inside when I gets cold and hungry.

Well, now, you really left out some important variables here for me to get involved with that kind of decision making process. Is the shed heated? Does it have tv? Any girlie pictures to take your mind off the wife? Do you have to walk by where your wife sits to get to the fridge? All this stuff can really make a difference. Actually, I understand perfectly. When I was over to Baxter's trying out a T Bird last fall, just out of curiosity, I called the wife for fun to tell her I was probably gonna ride a new bike home and what did she think. I dropped the phone when the headset temp suddenly dropped to -10 degrees. So I tucked my nuts back under my chin, and headed home on the old bike.

yous guys what with the rear end whine cause of a possible new motorsickle. jeez. I hear it all the time. Need a new tire? need brake pads? a chain kit? heck, I might as well build a shed. and now I see an '01 Trophy on fleabay. great. maintenance stuff gets me diverting my eyes. I can only imagine the joy we would share at the news of a third motorsickle. So hush your wrenching intonations about major purchases and be relieved that the expendable bits and pieces, at the very least, cause you no discomfort.
