That's the plan. I actually didn't think it was an hour away, but I guess we aren't exactly going the fastest route are we. I called Breitbachs and made a reservation for 9:30. I have to call them back that morning anyway with a more accurate head count, so I can tell them we will be closer to 10:00 too.
We could always leave earlier

Anyone from the Chicago area have suggestions for navigating through or preferably around the Chicago area to get to the rally. I am thinking of coming up from Indianapolis and would prefer to skip the big city traffic mess if possible. Thoughts?

This totaly bums me out because that really sounded like a fun deal and a good way to get to know everybodybut it aint happenin. Iknow Iread somwhere in this thread that you put out some cash for reservations if I owe you anthing for that tellme so I can get it to you. Iwould feel terible if my backing out costed you. Dont wait for me. Iwill call or text when we leave with an arrival time at some point on the route. you can confirm when you get a chance while were on the road. my number is 5156890850 so you recognise it.
I had to put a deposit down for the cruise, but I have 24 hours to let them know a final number (I think). So if we come up really short I can call and tell them we have a smaller group. I reserved 20 spots, so if friday afternoon there is only 10 of us I'll call them and let them know and hopefully I won't be on the hook for the 20. Give me a call and I'll try to give you a good spot to catch up with us at.

That's an option, we'll discuss it friday evening, maybe we could move it up to 8 or 8:30.

When are you leaving Indy? Are you taking the expressway or smaller highways? If you're taking the expressway, and you really want to avoid Chicago (and who wouldn't) Maybe 74 west out of Indy to 39 north towards Rockford, and west on us20 into East Dubuque?

I would be leaving on Friday. I like the suggestion of 74 or 24 west to 39. I haven't travelled those roads but assume they are in okay shape. May add some time to the trip but beats downtown Chicagoland.

Just checked IDOT there's construction on a BIG stretch of I-39. Depending on what time you go, going through Chicago may not be too bad. Avoid 290, 355. If you come by way of the Indiana toll road, take 294 (tri-state tollway) north (west) to I-90 west to Rockford.

The easiest route from Indianapolis to East Dubuque is to take 74 to Davenport IA. Hwy 61 north to Dubuque IA. RT 20 east into IL. once you cross into IL. you are only a mile from the hotel.

Hi there I live in the Quad Cities area and have a sister that lives in the Indy area. It's 5 hours by car coming the way of 74. (on the bike with stops about 6) You can take 474 around Peoria signs say Moline/Rock Island or You can stay straight on 74 and just watch your speed, it drops in Peoria. What you actually need to do is stay on 74 as it turns into I80. There is a big interchange of I-74, 280 and 80. Do not take the 280-I74 thru.(I74 bridge is under heavy construct and you could be sitting for awhile. Do not take 280, it's puts you back on I80 pass the 61 exit.) Stay straight and yes the I80 bridge is unconstruction too, but it's not bad. Once you cross the Mississippi River than you'll have approx. 16 miles to the exit for 61N. It's been a heck of year for construction up here. I'll be leaving after work around 4:30-5pm, should just take me about 1 1/2 hrs. to get up there. Also IL has state Motorcycle cops and they are sneeky little devils with hidding spots. Everyone have a safe ride and watch for the orange barrels.
Do not look back and ask why, look forward and ask, why not?

Every weather report I've seen for that area in the past couple days have been different. I think it's supposed to be nice tomorrow. Tornado warnings in Chicago right now

The weather for Dubuque is upper 80's, for Thursday thru Saturday, no rain. Sunday looks like it may rain. For all you guys coming from the east, I understand highway 20 is under construction between Galena and East Dubuque. What is normally a 4 lane is down to one lane in each direction. Ride Safe. . .

I think I am screwed. I just slipped and crashed an hour ago, not my bike on my a$$, problem is I totally flexed and hit my knee that I hurt and tore three weeks ago and have been on the mend. If it it tore it, it is really bad I am going to be totally screwed, blued and tattooed. This is nearly the worst think to happen right now. Yea, I am sure I am over stating it because there are far worse things. But this is very bad for things I can't go into right now. I plan on leaving tomorrow heading south...we'll see what it looks like in the morning.

I don't think so. I will not hit the road til noon or so and with 6-7 hours of travel time I will just make the deck time. If things change and I can get out earlier, I will let you know. Work day is variable so far.

heading out now, Oh wait........... I'm already here and i've got to work first The construction on rt.20 between Galena and E. Dubuque is only a couple of miles long, shouldn't be much of a hinderance, just watch out for the usual people that can't drive.

Great ridding, new friends and good times. It was only 600 miles for me for the weekend but it sure did beat sitting on the couch.

Outstanding riding this year and a great time with friends. I'll get some of my pics posted that aren't on the CDs that Tom made for us.
Got home about 6:30. Rick and I went through some heavy winds and driving rain but it didn't last long. Rick had to continue on in the direction of a pretty heavy band of storms. He's still on the road at this point.

Got home a little after 8 PM, 1134 miles total for me! Tom (Elfwolf) and I rode til we got to La Crosse and I took the fast route (4.5 hours) rather than risk getting home latter (wise choice) had to make a number of stops to make my knee quit squawking but all is good! Ditto on the ride, Gary, awesome! I especially liked the fast ride split off, wise choice. Challenging and fun. So good to meet new folks and you old timers as well. What an incredible weekend and fun time. Well worth the 2.5 hours of rain and head wind I endured to get down there, the ride back was sunshine and windy toward the end...but oh so nice. What and awesome country in this part of the world...except for the "smell" of money! Thank you all so much for making my one and only vacation this year so an incredible and restful time. eddy PS Anyone want a T Shirt, I have a couple of extra's, just e-mail me.

464 miles & just under 12 hours later (with a stop for a visit with my niece, and an hour camped out at a gas station waiting out a downpour) I'm home. 1332 miles for the entire trip.
Thanks, to everybody, for everything!

I forgot to add: I hit a bird on my way home at about 70mph right on the top of the summer screen. I ducked in time luckily and it came over the top of my helmet after hitting the screen! Pretty crazy but no harm done to me or the screen. The bird on the other hand...probably not so good.
