After some deliberation, I've decided to move up this year's SWTF rally a few weeks eariler to run Friday April 30th through Sunday May 2nd, so as to include a day of watching the thrills and spills of AMA Pro Flat Track motorcycle racing, an inaugural event taking place nearby the SWTF rally meeting place.(that's my house, BTW!) (the following is an excerpt from a news release by the AMA dated November 30, 2009) Quote:
Next on the schedule will be the first Expert Twins National at a new venue with a Mile at Yavapai Downs in Prescott Valley, AZ, located just north of Phoenix. This will be the first motorcycle race at Yavapai Downs and the only track in the western part of the country to feature Mile Nationals. The series will return to Yavapai Downs in October with back-to-back Nationals.
(and BTW...I have just today[January 19th]talked with the Event coordinator at Yavapai Downs[Sara Marshall] to get an idea as to the admission price for this, and she advised me that their venue is in final talks with the AMA racing division about this event's particulars such as time of day and pricing. Sara assured me that the race will take place, as there's been much interest expressed to her about it, and she said the price would probably be in the $30 range per person for general admission)
I thought this race might be of interest to many of the attendees and also figured it might be a nice addition to the rally's usual schedule of events.
And so, once again, the 2010 Southwest Triumph Fest in beautiful and historic Prescott Arizona will be held Friday April 30th-Sunday May 2nd, though just as in previous years, anyone wishing to arrive a day earlier on Thursday, OR wishing to stay until Monday May 3rd is more than welcome to.
And as usual, there'll be plenty of space at the house to throw a sleeping bag or two, OR for those attendees wishing their own nearby accomodations, either PM me here at BA.com or give me a call on my cell (310)994-7365 to get some ideas about the local Hotel/Motel situation. There are plenty to pick from, all the way to a few nicely restored historic hotels around town square, at about $120 per night which are about 1 1/2 miles away from rally HDQs, to many less expressive motel choices within a mile or so, and in the $60 per night range.
Hope to see all the usual suspects again AND hopefully some new faces this year too!!!
(and sooooo...who's coming and who's interested out there???)

Wow...that's a looong ride, Scott. But, I'm thinking about it myself. We'll have to talk. I'm kinda thinking of going for the iron butt on the way there...of course taking my time after that and on the way home. Would you be in for that kind of riding?

No, I don't have that much time off! 1800 miles is a bit much for the weekend! But it's looking like this is doable. Hey Chris if you are going to make it maybe we can split a hotel room or something if there isn't enough room at Dwight's place. How bout it Dwight? I snore and fart a lot so from what i've read i'll fit right in!
I have some frequent flyer miles available to use, so I could fly into PHX and rent a bike for the weekend. I got the OK from the wife. Can anyone in Phoenix give me a ride from the airport to the nearest HD rental place?

I'm definitely interested, happy to put up a tent and sleeping bag if there is room on the lawn. May have some other TBA/SM interested. Little farther than I first thought but still like to go. (From SF Bay)

I won't be making this year's SWTF - for the first time!!! I will be in Reno that weekend. I had sorta planned on the "regular weekend" for SWTF when I made the Reno plans. If something changes, and Reno falls thru, I will make it to Prescott that weekend! Hope you all have a great time!!!! Becy

I stayed twice at the Sierra Inn. Nothing fancy but real close to Dwights house and reasonable rates.

Becky, I was sorry to read in the other "SWTF???" thread that you said you probably couldn't make it this year if I moved it up to include this flat track race this year. However, IF somethin' changes in your Reno plans, no matter when that change might happen or how close to the SWTF weekend any change might happen, I know you know that you'll always be more than welcome to show up and join in the festivities at any time! (now, I suppose I shouldn't tell ya this, but I'm hopin' for OUR sake that somehow your "The Biggest Little City in the World" venture goes south on ya...well, actually I guess I hope it goes "southwest" on ya, like towards PRESCOTT!!!)

Well, given the recent NEWS I unfortunately will not be able to attend as I had planned. I'll save my airline miles and see if I can get out there next year.

Yeah Scott, when I read your joyous news today about your "Chicago winterizing" , I kind'a figured this note was comin'!
But, of course, I fully understand the logic of your decision, and yeah, we'll all be lookin' forward to seein' ya at next year's SWTF!!!!

Yeah Bob. Try Degree. Maybe get some more action on here. I'm kind of excited about the races, should be a blast. You know how the SWTF threads go every year, start a little slow but pick up as the date nears. Good to bump it now and then though

Looks like I'll be having rotator cuff surgery. The doc's getting approval so I don't know the scheduling yet. May not be able to attend this year.

I'm hopin' too. Depends on when he cuts. My son's graduating college Memorial Day weekend so I have to travel to New York for that. Don't want to do it too soon after surgery (O' course percocet could make for a short trip )

OK, time to bump this sucker. Fest is ten weeks away. I know because I just counted the weeks after surgery. I'll be having rotator cuff repaired next Thursday, that's nine weeks before the SWTF. I plan on going even if I can't ride (but I may be able to, Won't know 'til the time comes).

Update, AmyLee and I have now made reservations at the Point of Rocks RV campground just north of Prescott for the 29th of April through May 2nd. Your event is now only two months away, have you had time to make a tentative schedule of events yet? Bob '04BlackTBA '02RedTBA

Yes,New! Hey that was two years ago for me, and over 60, I'm doing good to remember what I did yesterday. What ever that was! FJ, how deep is the snow up in Big Sky Country? Dwight, seems to shoot from the Hip on his events! I was just curious, plus it was something to do while watching it rain. Stay warm, Bob

Yep Bob, here's the almost final schedule for the SWTF this year("almost final", as I'm always open to any idea from any of the attendees which might sound "interesting" enough to the majority of the attendees as to include said idea in the weekend's festivities or adjust the schedule accordingly):
On friday April 30th, there will be a run from Prescott to Sedona starting at 10am from my house and encompassing approximately 150 miles that day. Dinner back at SWTF "HDQ" at about 7pm.
On saturday May 1st, we'll all be heading to Yavapai Downs Fair Grounds at 10am to take in the inaugural running of the AMA Pro Mile Flat-Track races in nearby Prescott Valley for the day. Dinner either at one of the restaurants near Whiskey Row, or maybe at the SWTF HDQ again.(still open to discussion)
On sunday May 2nd, for those folks who don't have to leave to get back home by the next day, we'll be making a run of about 120 miles towards Wickenburg and then on to Bagdad and then back to Prescott.
And so, we're down to T-minus 2 months and counting now. In the next few days I'll be taking a headcount and asking for T-shirt sizes and quantities wanted.
(BTW folks, I know I've been kind'a slack in keeping this thread updated, but Judie and I are in the midst of painting and gettin' the California house ready to be rented out, as we're in the final stages of finally movin' lock, stock and barrel to Prescott and livin' there full-time...we should be all done with this by March 9th)

Oh yeah, we'll be headin' over Mingus Mountain again to get to Sedona, and so, yeah Ron, we'll be stoppin' in Jerome again. ______________________ Later today I'll be recapping this thread and begin taking a count of attendees, along with T-shirt requests. And I'll also post details on acquiring those tickets for the flat-track races, folks. (yep, it seems most of the unpacking is now completed and now I can concentrate on this here SWTF!!!)

Here's the info on gettin' the tickets for the AMA Mile Flat Track races.... http://www.gettix.net/sport/arizona/?event_id=3212Looks like it's $28.00 for general admittance per person for the grandstand and track level, and if anyone would like to include the Clubhouse entry it's $39.00. So, contact "GetTix.net" and purchase those tickets. I think that's a pretty darn cheap price to pay to witness the thrills of one of the premiere motorsports events one can ever watch...Mile Flat Track Racing! And if you've ever watched "On Any Sunday", then you know what I'm talkin' about here, don't cha?!!! ___________________ And now, let's have everybody plannin' on comin' to this year's Southwest Triumph Fest in beautiful Prescott Arizona April 30th-May 2nd once again reconfirm their participation below, if you would. (oh, and don't forget to include your T-shirt sizes and quantities wanted too, folks)

I will be there and Cathy is planning on coming too. So that's 1-XL and 1-M on the shirts. Don't yet know if I'll be riding but I hope to.
If Cathy comes we'll stay at a nearby inn. Otherwise, I'll be in the loft.
