Does anyone have any experiance using these tires
Which brand handled better (wet/dry), lasted longer
I think these are my best choices
Any feedback would help. Thanks

Not experienced with Metzlers and I won't know about the mileage on my Avons until they wear out (8K so far) but I do like the way the Venoms stick to the road.

Avon Venom great tyre, wet or dry. Ditched my ME880 after about 5000 miles. Too many scarey moments in the wet.

You may want to consider the Avon "roadrider"
Excellent quality, and much better price.
(You ain't goin' over 120 mph anyway)

i have spent the evening trawling web for the best tyres for my bike and ended up a little confused. most of the tyre i found are tubeless but on my america they tubed ( the spoked wheels ) so can i use a tubeles tyre with a tube? or does it have to be a tube tyre ? also why do i have to have different tyres cant seem to get same style tyre for front and rear i am favouring at the moment avon roadrider av27 on front and avon veom am24 on rear providing they are ok as i think they are both tubeless

I currently have the same style Avon Venoms on my 2004 America 100/90-18 front and 170/80-15 rear. You are correct that the height/width numbers for the front are slightly different than the stock Bridgestones my bike came with but the math is easy (100 mm width/height is 90% of width or 90mm) and I have no issues with clearances. And, yes, I'm running tubes for my spoked wheels in tubeless tires. I believe the only caveat here is that you can't run tires meant for tubes as tubeless as the bead doesn't seat properly.

Thanks for the info. thinking of putting a 130/70 on front and a 200/60 on rear. Wonder if it can be done

Rear would need a different/wider (5.5-6" I think) rim laced on the hub. It's been done.

This year I'll have to replace my original Bridgestones on my America. I had planned to replace them with the Metzlers that are stock now, but confused by more than one report of them not doing well in rain. I've put over 18,000 miles on my Bridgestones and never had a problem on wet pavement. I even rode the Tail of the Dragon in the rain on them.

I would like tires that would have good tread life and work as well or better than what I've had. Forum reports on tires has left me a bit confused based on differing opinions of the same tires. I still have usable tread on my tires, but want to replace them before summer.

I vote for the Avon's and if you want to go that wide on the back you will need a wider rim..

I agree, these light up pretty good. I was riding with some HD friends and we were in a situation were it was neccessary to pull out into traffic very quickly. I was first off and it was commented later that my back tire (880 Marathon) was still smoking at 70 mph.

one would think that a D&D 904 kit with 12:1 JE pistons and nikasil barrels, equivalent of stage 2 head work, stock sized valves, reworked intake manifolds, matched manifolds/ports and carbs, thunderbike 270 -B cams, scepter pipes, K&N pods would just about smoke ANY tire.

actually the event I was refering to happened before I built the 904. Just a well tuned 865 at the time. But your point is dead on.

This is a GOOD thing?

I thought traction was what we we're looking for?

I've run Venoms for over 30K miles. the fronts usually last about 12K miles and the rears 8-10K. Good in the wet as well as the dry. The only problem I've had is that they go from looking OK to needing replaced RIGHT NOW in a single day (400-500 miles.)

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
