This is really good, but also sad at the same time. Us gitbox players can probably all relate to this. United Breaks Guitars and it's a true story. Makes ya wonder about those burly ham fisted baggage handlers eeh Dwight?
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Hey gents,
Guess what, Dave is from Timmins (along with Shania). He was just up in December and my son who works as a luggage carrier handled his guitar. Needless to say he treated it with kid gloves.
As Dinqua said, it is a true story that has launched his career. When United Airlines wouldn't replace his smashed Taylor guitar, he told the airline that he would write and post 3 songs on UTube. The rest is history.
BTW, after the fantastic success of his song, United offered to give him the money to replace his guitar and he told them to give it to charity. He never took anything.
Oh, and United has lost his luggage since this all happened.

Great video there, Pat! Yep, it sure did remind me of a few of my old co-workers alright! I remember this one guy, Mike "Cookie" Rojas, who was known far and wide around the ramp to be, lets say, "less than gentle" with the baggage while placing it on the belt loader. One day while he was loading luggage onto it, the flight's First Officer was doing his pre-flight walk-around and he noticed Cookie chuckin' boxes that had Fragile stickers placed all over 'em. The F/O walked up and asked Cookie if he knew what it meant when certain items have those particular stickers on 'em, and Cookie replied, "Uh huh, it means THOSE are the items that we shouldn't dropkick over TEN friggin' feet! Now, if you'll excuse me I've got a friggin' plane to load here, or do ya have any other questions for me, chum?" The F/O just shook his head and continued on with his A/C inspection.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

However Pat, on the bright side of all this, and just to show you how the airline industry continues to hold the public's safety as Priority One, I've got a little video for YOU here ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gusqa0BB0Vg&NR=1

Man that was some funny stuff.. the videos, not the guitar smashing. I'm thinking he handled it really well... the redneck in me says that somebody would have toted a butt whoopin' over that.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

Firstly let me say that Dave Carroll is awesome, both for his talent and the way he handled the situation. Greg, you guys have some players coming out of that Northern town of yours!! I've had a bit of trouble with airlines and my guitars. This one got smashed by British Air coming back from Africa. Thankfully the hard case saved the day. And this beautiful Martin backpacker's guitar had the headstock broken right off (much like Dave's Taylor) by baggage handlers. I was able to fit it with a new maple piece and it now plays better than ever. Btw... check out Dave's 'Statement' video after watching 'United Breaks Guitars.' It explains more about what Greg told us in his post above.

Ouch...I hate to see that, Keith. Did they take any blame for your issues with their complete lack of care?

Nah... just the usual. Make a claim and we'll get back to ya. In those days I was in Africa a lot where communication systems such as phone were less then ideal so my claims were more or less dropped after a while.

Now THAT'S a fun music video. And the song is even pretty good! Ahhh..., revenge can be sweet if you're creative enough!

Great videos / songs! I have never checked a guitar and do not plan to. I have a "Little Martin" that I carry on in a backpack, have had some interesting conversations with TSA agents over it.

Gee, I wonder if "Cookie" was covered by a union contract.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
