Anyone know who i could contact that would be a real expert on the subject? I need at ask details such as whether there are any materials that will give a wothwhile reduction in noise over fiberglass and any tricks that will also help make it quiet as possible. I've asked here before so i know the answer isn't here. But maybe someone here can point me to someone who knows this stuff inside and out.

I did that with thunderbike (no help) and staintune. (haven't yet replied) I think when you talk to them in order to get the REAL truth from a knowledgable person you'd need to talk to the designers, and usually you don't get to. It's generally someone whjo the company assigned to that task, a rep or such. And while they may know a lot they usually don't knbow things like this which are known to those who've done it all themselves and truly know such fine details.
I need to find an independant guy who's very experienced at this perticular task.

what pipes are you running? why don't you just run the stockers if you want it to be quiet? If you pack any more material in any of the open / less restrictive pipes it will compromise the performance.

1)- i didn't say i want them quiet, just not so friggin loud. 2)-it's much quicker with the pipes and accompanying mods which is the main reason for the pipes, and i'm not gonna lose that just to quiet it down.
As for restriction, the pipe is straight thru so the material i use and how i use it to pack them shouldn't have any impact on performance. But various things i've read suggest materials and the way you pack them will make it quieter or louder depending on which you do/use. All i want is to talk to someone who knows the truth about which will be quietest to avoid following the advice of someone who isn't experienced enough to know what will work best for me with near 100% accuracy.

You're right on that count. Wish I could help you but haven't done much of that. Maybe you'll just have to experiment and become the resident 'spert.

I call one of the big mail-order places: Chaparral, Competition Accessories, Brockton Cycle Center. Check with their dirt bike parts person. Those dirt bikers are always repacking their mufflers.

I actually thought of that about a month ago when i first started thinking of doing this and asked a well known dirt bike store...scott's. They are known for thier scott's oiler among a few other things and just happen to be located a couple blocks from me. I asked them and thier answer was that they weren't sure. i think few people really know about packing materials and which is quietest. But i emailed the company that makes silent sport packing which is said to be the best from what i got from a google search, and they assured me thier premium stuff will be quieter than fiberglass. Of course it's not exactly an unbiased opinion, but i've read forum posts on the stuff that sounded like it's THE stuff to use. So i'm gonna try it. Worse case scenario i'm out $15.

To reduce the loud crack in the exhaust note I made a reducer and inserted it at the clamp end. The reducer is a tight fit and you push them in from the clamp end I made mine with an opening of 30mm,this reduces the overall loudness and cracking note and leaves you with a very deep rumble ,it also improves the back pressure which in turn improved the performance a little.Just do the same with both pipes and you can even experiment with smaller diamanters if you like.It worked for me and was simple ,then if you want it loud at a later date ,you just pull the reducers out again. Cheers Steve

Steve......that sounds fabulous ! But i have no idea what to do. I can't even envision it. This has me rather excited, but could you elaborate to a degree that would make it do-able or would that be to hard to explain?

Ok, i found some reducers on google so i see what they are no. heres a pic, i assume this is what i need? (of course with the correct in and out diameters) How do you make them tho, and do you know the diameter it needs at the large end? i suppose if i got a piece of pipe from a hardware store and slit it from about 1/2 way down and bend it to form a cone that would work eh? Also, how long did you make them?
