When I bought my 2009 EFI America, I had them "stage 1" the bike, which included the TOR longs, a remap and a higher flow airfilter. What is a conservative estimate of the HP/Torque gain in doing that?

I hear about Harley's going through a Stage 2 and 3. What would be my next step with my America, and what kind of HP/Torque gains are possible?

Hi Lance, the EfI stuff is fairly new terrain mate so there isn't a lot of info to share on this one.
Here's the Dyno table

with all the info we have on gains made but there isn't too much from EFI bikes yet. Btw, the table is at the top of the performance section.

So we are in pretty well unchartered waters until people who have EFI bikes start doing dynos themselves and send the results with printout etc to me. I then post them for all to see to give others with EFI bikes approx answers to the questions you are now posing. Sorry about that mate but we have to start somewhere.

Maybe if you have learnt a lot off this site and people have assisted you, then you can assist others by having a think about getting a dyno done yourself.

It's how we work here, helping each other.

Thanks Staffo! I appreciate your thoughts here. I was told that by doing what I did at purchase, I should acheive a 10% increase in HP, but you are right, the dyno would be the way to assess/prove this. My dealer offers a dyno test as a package with some scheduled services, so I will have to take them up on this.

Specialty Spares claims they've tested stock bikes with their pipes, jet kit (mapping in your case), and UNI filter at a six Hp gain. I would assume most properly set up performance pipes should be about that.

Like Staffo said - it's early days with EFI bikes here at BA so you're one of the early adopters - or I should say early adapters

A handful here have gone to Stage 1 - Stage 1 and a half - and I only know of 2 thats gone to Stage 2 (Davo on this forum) - only 1 at Stage 3 (Fat Frank on the RAT forum).

Stage 1: Aftermarket pipes, remap, freer flowing filter.

Stage 1 1/2: AI removal and O2 sensors disabled, Tuneboy remap. No measurabled power gains but smoother running.

Stage 2: Airbox removal. Tuneboy remap or Power Commander map mod.

Stage 3: Big bore kit, Thunder cams, Tuneboy remap.

Horsepower gains on EFI bikes are difficult to pin down at this early stage. In my case my dyno run was at stage 1 1/2 so I had nothing to compare it to. Bear in mind that it can be misleading to compare dyno results between different dyno shops - the calibrations can be wildly different. Some shops are very optimistic in their calibration.

Davo and Fat Frank appear to have got measurable performance gains by going to stage 2 & 3 respectively.

Very true. Definitely use the same dyno machine for all your runs if you can. That way, even if it runs high numbers, the next run will still show the improvement.

When you're ready for more Hp after replacing pipes, re-mapping and adding a better filter, skip directly to the Big Bore. No more bang for the buck - major difference in torque and Hp. I'm getting 66 ft./lbs. of torque and over 75 Hp at the rear wheel on a dyno and I still have a stock airbox which I plan to keep.

With only 41cc difference between the 865 and the 904, I wonder whether it would be simpler and better value just replacing the cams with Thunderbike cams? I can't see how you can get that much power increase from only 41cc more?

I know you're getting that performance - but how much is attributable to the cams?

A basic 904 kit alone produces a gain of about...16 hp and 18 ft-lb for a cost of $74.69 per hp or $66.39 per ft-lb (price $1195.00)

Are those gains compared to the stock 790 engine? Because I was talking about gains on an 865.

Anyone know what are the gains are for the Thunderbike cams on their own?
