So I did some research on putting a big fatty on the front of my bike and I was hoping to get some feedback from you all.
I was looking to run a 150/70-18 front tire on the bike. I know this would involve removing the fender/fork brace and running dual/split brake lines.
This being said, the side clearance would be 5/8" (stock is 3/4") total before being squeezed into the 2.5" rim. So I feel pretty good about the clearance.
The guy at the dealership give me the thumbs up, but what do you all think?
I know it will affect the stability a bit without the brace, but I really like the look of those big fat tires up front.

I like the big fatties up front too, just like the Exile bikes. If you can make it work, and you like it, go for it! Post pics when its done. Don't worry about the brace in there, the axle and the lower yoke are plenty of support for the forks.

Biker's right... you'll get a lot of sidewall flex from a tyre that fat in a narrow rim. Add that to the added flex in your forks from the loss of the brace and you're asking for problems. Get yourself some spoked wheels from an america, do the thunderbird hub trick so you still have your dual disks, and put a wider rim on the front. Extend the fork brace so it'll fit over your tyre too, and you'll have a nice safe ride with fat looks.
If you're gonna do it, do it right.

I guess I was assuming you would run a different wheel with a tire that fat. The stock wheel is not wide enough for a tire that size. I still say the fender bracket (it's not really a brace at all) can go.

Of course it has! More power, more torque, more gas, ... more rubber.
It's always about more, more, more... isn't it?

Thaks for all the input guys. After more research I found that the widest tire we can put on our 2.5" rims safetly is a 130 series. A 150 would be cool, but It'd be a LOT more work than I want to put into it. I feel fine pulling the fender. I think the forks will be plenty stiff without the crossover, and I've decided to go with a 130/80. Have any of you gone with a 130/90 rear tire on the front? I'm wondering what the disadvantages would be besides slow speed handeling. Would it still be safe deep into corners, or is a rear tire have to wide/flat of a profile? Thanks, Bob

yes I have run 130/90 on the front and it handle well even at slower speeds ...but remember this move will make it not handle as well as it did before ...it will be different and you will have to get use to it..

One thing. The 130/90 is 29mm taller than stock. This will make your speedo read 33% slow. A 130/70 (only 3mm taller) will work better.
