Just saw the following on the RAT net site. Looks like the Paulies may be about to do their 'hammer magic' to a Trumpet. Well, it ain't a perfect world, but at least its prime time. After all, even bad publicity is better than none at all. Lets hope the boys make us proud... Quote:
Posted: 2005-12-05 17:01 I was at my local Triumph dealer and they had a brand new T-100, Tang & Opal, that was sent to them by Triumph to be prepped and delivered to Orange County Choppers...you know, the folks that do all the choppers for the TV show. Wouldn't it be something to see A Triumph project on the show?

Paul and Jr. have turned into idiots that play to the show, I could care less what they do. They have lost all credibility to me. Maybe they will give the project to Mickey. They have talent, sure, but as far as I am concerned, they have their heads up their arses if they think we enjoy them yelling at each other all the time, show after show after show.

I give them credit, it takes balls for them jump into the chopper scene at its height and risk it all when nobody was even doing anything remotely close to what they were doing. Then to exploit all things sacred to shamelessly promote OCC. The POW bike was a slap in the face but a springboard to fame for them. Heck Paulie sr. even served in the marines, uhm excuse me, Merchant Marines. Heck they are good at assembly. They use somones else's frames, fenders, tanks, front-ends, motors but. . .THEY put them all together and then send them out for paint. They do have a great imagination. An imagination for making money AND making hideous motorcycles to boot. One heck of a combination.

Hey there Fryguy!!!
Sarcasm is MY job around these here parts!!!(I mean...just ask anyone 'bout that)
Now....here's how I see this.
Five will get ya ten...those east-coast jokers will put some stupid looking long-a$$ front-end of that poor Triumph, and make something that one could never in a million years be called a "classic custom".
This is a FACT....NOT just my opinion....BUT when customizing britbikes and especially Triumphs, they ONLY look RIGHT as stripped-down BOBBERS, NOT something Fonda would ride to New Orleans, back in the day!!!
Dwight (and IF they DO make a chopper out of Hinckey's finest, I hope they find that redneck S.O.B. riding in that pickup from that movie, and that he adds a finishing touch to it with his shotgun)
(other than THAT....I have NO complaints)

There is a company near Palm Beach Triumph, that makes choppers out of Speedmasters. Saw one during Bikeweek a while back Looked pretty good. A chopper looks god with a pipe comming down on both sides of Frame. A lot cooler than Harley, or any other manufacture chopper.

Barry, If they do some regular Triumph build-ups mixed in with the Harley's maybe some fresh ideas or more aftermarket products will filter down the pike our way. We are still extremely limited to what is available to us.

I think back when Sr. was younger he probaly made Triumph choppers. I used to have a old mag. that described building a Triumph chopper. the article was from California in the early seventies.

No, they aren't the only ones. But they are the only ones with a prime time cable show. Joe Public thinks that OCC is the Quintessential Chopper and that is wrong. A lot of people are turned off by choppers now because of that show. I personnally love choppers, not the choppers you see today. Ones that come from a box, no. I love THE chopper for what it is not what it transcended into today.

Okay Greg, If you REALLY want to get into some of this here sarcasm business, I suppose I could do what John Bloor did back in the late eighties with Les Harris, and let you produce some of it, UNDER LICENSE! Of course, that's ONLY until I get my spanking new sarcasm factory up and running, in a few years time. Dwight (ha!...bet ya didn't know I bought the patent on this stuff a while back, did ya?!!)

Ah, yes! I can see it now. The 'Wing and a Prayer' bike. Two big angel wings on the front forks. That big a$$ed passenger seat made into an alter, the flat 6's exhaust pipes shaped into pipe organ like appendages, the on-board satelite up-linked CD-DVD player showing a gospel choir singing in bass boosted quadraphonic splendor... Wake me! SOMEBODY WAKE ME!!!

Why must the younger generation always bust us "old" folks? I know they don't do it on purpose. Let it be known that I built a Truimph Chopper in Calif. in the mid 70's. 10 over Amen springer, 6 over hardtail, 1969 TR6 motor. I definately know that back then I wasn't building a 'classic custom' I was building a very ridable bike that fit me a like a glove. Strap a sleeping bag to the sissy bar and I was as comfortable as in the best living room chair. I gotta get a pic of it on this site soon. LIke I said, at the time I built it because It was me. Her name was Trudy.

Yip these are looking good more of what I would like to see in a custom job on a Triumph.
I feel only a Triumph enthusiast can really do justice to a custom job on a Triumph. They have a feel for what it’s all about. It becomes a different story when you doing it for yourself to have as an extension of your character. Being a commercial enterprise it’s just about the money and anything goes as long as it brings in the cash and lots of it.

Gimpy, Ultimately, of course, you are right. One CAN change the channel("if thy own eye offends thee, pluck it out"). But I'll attempt to explain why I have a little problem with this TV show.
The premise to the program consists of a formulistic concept, where the somewhat talented Paulie Jr is continually pressured and belittled by his "tough guy" pop. Now Mikey IS a pretty funny fellow, and does give good service as the comedy relief element in the whole affair. "And I gotta tell ya", Vinny does seem to know his way around a garage, also.

Now do ya get why I watched that program about 3 or 4 times that first year, and have as you've suggested since switched to other broadcasts that my satellite dish can receive during that particular time and night of the week?
And not only is the program's conventions repetitive, BUT let me ask you this.....How many times can you watch a S&S motor(or any V-Twin, for that matter) bolted into the basic hard-tail frame, and then add the 20 inch over forks applied to the triple-clamps, and then....OH YEAH....I guess Paulie Jr. DOES add his "finishing touches" to the bike by sometimes bending some metal, then welding said metal onto the tank/fenders/side covers/etc. and having it painted by someone else.
Are they actually ENGINEERING anything that would make their bikes handle better, go faster or even last longer?
Ummmm....I don't think so. To accomplish those objectives they BOLT ON other peoples' engineered products.
Hell..trust me! I could DO THAT! And also design and fabricate the "shiny parts" like Paulie Jr. does.
Yep....I admit my home-made wine(whine?) here does seem to contain a certain vintage of sour-grapes....BUT....I view these jokers as a "flash-in-the-pan" novelty, just as choppers from my youth(the 60's and 70's) ultimately became.(and will again).
Remember....The "Classics" of ANY endevor are timeless and have something truly meaningful to say about our culture.
Cheers, Dwight

Oh I forgot to add.....I WAS somewhat disappointed by missing their english sojourn, though.(maybe I'll catch it during the summer rerun period)
I would have appreciated seeing the Hinckley plant again(was there in the No.1 factory pre-fire days with my wife[yeah...she was bored, but a good soldier, none-the-less], back in 1996), and also seeing many of the other english sites, around that great country.

Dave, Then what you tellin' me is that I should reconsider my imminent move from a relative sea level existence here in L.A. to that mile-high city of Prescott, AZ in a few years, due to a REAL danger of being "misunderstood" in the future, huh?
Is THAT IT?

I imagine he has already garnered a case of the "sweats", just THINKIN' about my move there. The poor guy!!!

Hey gang...I hope this isn't what Triumph was planning to do with the money they saved by not attending the motorcycle show circuit this year. I remember them saying that they were going to invest the money into some other advertising ventures. If this is their idea of what the American public wants to see then they are way off. I hope Triumph isn't handing over advertising dollars to those clowns. I do like Mikey though. But it seems to coincidental that OCC airs a show in England riding Triumphs and this bit of news. Triumph should give these guys the nod to build a custom Triumph: http://www.powerplantchoppers.com/triumphs.html

Dwight, After feasting on your hospitality last summer, as Val Kilmer/Doc Holliday would say; "I'm your huckleberry". I got your back when you move to Arizona. Of course in order to fend off those miscreants at the Palace Saloon, I'll have to visit you more often near those wonderful roads up there. your pal, Derek

I think I sees, riding up from yonder eastern horizon, maybe from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a varmit who just might not 'preciate my opinions 'bout things! Looks like he might just arrive into that Palace Saloon, sometime 'bout High Noon! Y'all make sure he ain't got no kin out there waitin' to plug me in the back when I steps outside, alright? Dwight
