That's really quite wonderful isn't it. A tribute to vision and execution.
Do they give actual unit and dollar sales and market share %s.

Sorry Bill can't give you that data but they published the actual unit sales in the UK 2009 which are as follows:
Daytona 770 Street Triple 769 Tiger 734 Sprint ST 720 Street Triple R 712 Bonneville 632 Speed Triple 570 T100 408 America 354 Thunderbird 239 Speedmaster 218 Thruxton 166 Rocket III 134 Scrambler 132 Rocket III Clasic 114 Rocket III Tour 69
UK market represents approx 10% of total sales.

Obviously, sport bikes rule in UK. Cruisers, apparently, are not too big in England.

That would mean they are now selling 70,000 bikes a year. I don't think so? The U.S. dealers are down for the most part.
They are growing though. One would think the UK would buy more bikes built in the UK. Is Harley a big seller there?

I would love to see Triumph compete once again in AMA and road race events. If they would win there, they'd win more in the showrooms. I still get bikers ask "Who makes that?". Of course usually younger guys. A big thumbs up Triumph!!

Yes that is true but the sales of Thunderbird after only 3 months is interesting. Also the Bonneville variants account for about 1700 sales.

I would say more owners in the UK us motorcycles as their primary source of transportation. Also a sport bike is easier to filter (split the lane) with during those morning and afternoon commutes.
When I was in London in 2005 I don't remember seeing anything other than sport bikes, and there were lots of them. Motorcycles back then didn't have to pay the 5 pound fee for driving in London like anyone in a car did.

70,000 isn't a vrazy number- i remember 44,000 several years ago. Maybe it's 50 or 60 - that's still pretty good.
I also remember someone posting global numbers years ago (maybe thanassis) and the big players numbers were staggering (a million hondas?). Our favorite brand has lots of room to grow!

Yes, and a lot of them are bought by weekend warriors. Speaking as a weekend warrior myself. (can't get ladders, tools, materials and paperwork on an America and not get pulled)

I don't think they are even close to 50,000 bikes a year. We will never know as they don't release their numbers.

Figures filed with Companies' House yesterday showed that in the year to June 30, 2008, Triumph's operating profits had risen by 16 per cent to £14.57m.
Turnover soared by 29 per cent, to £284.56m.
The company, which this week launched its 16th model, sold 48,929 bikes in the same period – up 19 per cent on the previous 12 months... web page

Nah, I don't think Ron "wants Triumph to fail", there Ed. If I may be so bold as to speak for him here(yeah, yeah, I know...what's so friggin' unusual about doin' THAT "for" people round here, huh?! ), I THINK Ron just kind'a gets a little put off sometimes by some of the "Rah-Rah" stuff in the world, and feels that some of the "Triumph-centric" viewpoints sometimes expressed at this website often seem to verge on the similarly inclined and well known phenomenon which many people out there share that "there's no other motorcycle worth owning in all the world than a Harley-Davidson". (and if I'm wrong here, I know Ron will correct me...'cuz I DO KNOW for SURE that just like ME, our friend in San Antonio and ALWAYS a most welcome guest to the SWTF, isn't shy about expressing his opinions...RIGHT RON???!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well spotted Ed In point of fact every company has to publish it's accounts and if you are interested you can buy them from a govenment website and get a detailed balance sheet and profit and loss statement www.companieshouse.gov.ukJohn Bloor isn't doing so well on the old house building front though! Trouble is there are no fins on them suckers eh Dwight! You were right all along old buddy Garding against being Triumph Centricity is fair enough. I hate all unmodified stock pipes and I'm not too keen on well erm...I know Triumph underwear www.triumph.com then again I do like that very much no very very much so I confess I am a Triumphaholic and I just can't get enough It is great to see and it is a pleasure to ride the strong niche brand that is a Triumph in every sense!

Nice research guys, and at a time of a global downturn and spending less. I agree about the raa raa business too. Great Triumph is doing well but sometimes (and I've been one of em) you see this feeding type frenzy of patting Triumph on the back, whilst at the same time they won't replace a faulty but totally overpriced ignitor. (Bad Triumph) Yep, we need guys to put things back into perspective. thanks for the info though. Quoting stats like these to fellow riders of different brands is always fun

Ok, in 2008 HD was some 300,000 units, Honda was an astounding TEN MILLION! Lots of room for Triumph to grow. To be honest though the bulk of hondas sales are in asia and probably very small machines. The average $ value is about 10% of the north american average. Both honda and hd will be well off their north american numbers in 2009. http://world.honda.com/investors/annualreport/2009/pdf/2009-page18-23.pdf for the honda numbers

I was just commenting on the math. The guy said the UK is 10% of sales. Do the math. He was wrong. Or something is wrong. If it makes you happy I am happy for you. It doesn't make me unhappy to have a Triumph that makes 30k or 50k bikes. I still like my bike just fine. In the year to June 08 they sold 48,000 before this recession. Using the numbers posted with 6,700 in the UK making 10% they would sell 67,000 this year. That is about a 35% increase 08 to 09. I couple that with Pure-Triumph in GB and Florida tanking and am left wondering why. I do not believe they built 67,000 units in the last 12 months with reduced demand. If they did build that many I am happy for Mr. Bloor, he seems to be a nice guy. I don't know how the numbers have a bearing on my ra! ra! meter for Triumph though. I already like them. And I don't hate them for it I think the UK is responsible for a bigger market share than he reported. But just in case they did ship over 60,000 bikes outside of GB in the last 12 months I will do a for you. Now, is your branded oversensitive butt feeling better now!

No wonder Triumphs profits are up.
The profit they make on spares in Ausralia would feed a 3rd. world country for years.
