LONGEST-RUNNING HOLIDAY SPECIAL RETURNS Tuesday, December 4, 8pm et/pt Let the reindeer games begin with RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER®, the longest-running holiday special in television history. This digitally re-mastered classic has entertained millions of families since 1964, with the world-renowned musical score from Johnny Marks and the voice talent of legendary performer Burl Ives (Sam the Snowman). Every year I anticipate watching Yukon Cornelius (Rumour has it rides a Triumph twin in the 2010 remake) and misunderstood Bumbles bouncing to regain a sense of order in the world. Being at a night meeting, I missed it!
I'm passing on Christmas this year.

Dont worry John ,its sure to be on every night on the other channels along with the Grinch . i however will be waiting for the true xmas extravaganza of telly watching ....... the one and only watchable version of Scrooge starring Alistair Sim (sod them other Ebenezers -George C Scott and Albert Finney).Scrooged with Bill Murray will be watched as it is the funny version, and as the season is about some dude named Christ ,this heathen /pagan will observe the religious significance of it and watch The Life of Brian .

I really missed Charlie Brown's Christmas this year. That is one of the few shows I really tried to see every year. I know, I know ~~ it is available on DVD ~~ but there is something nostalgic about making hot cocoa or hot tea during the commercial breaks. Notice I didn't say why I missed Charlie Brown's Christmas...

We watched it with our new granddaughter. Macys now sponsors the show, and much to my dismay, Santa does NOT ride the Norelco shaving head as a sled in the Macy's version. Those clips were the highlight of the entire show, IMO. Is there no justice in this world? What's next? The Burl Ives Santa playing an electric banjo with a wah wah pedal? Oh - by the way John, what time zone is Tue Dec 4th in?

I'm going to miss all the really seasonal stuff like a death in Eastenders, a family crisis in Coronation street or a major disaster in Casualty in UK this year as I'm going to be in MA.
So I'm going to be a tad bit lost having to watch all the sugary crimbo stuff in the USA.
To be honest since only fools and horses stopped being on the tv at christmas it's hardly worth watching the tv on christmas day.
However I still cling to the hope that one day the Queen is going to do her christmas broadcast and fill it with blue jokes and maybe sing a couple of songs for the British public.

What else is there to do at christmas Grzegorz?
To be honest the best christmas days are the ones where it's difficult to get up because you have been partying hard on the christmas eve.
Blimey christmas day such a boring day that it could turn a man to religion.

Whatever happened to Dolly Madison that always advertised during Charlie Brown specials?
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

I get the gist of your, albeit misplaced, point Dwight,
The error lies in while Jimmy Stewart (It's a Wonderful Life) was based on Hollywood's marketing fictional characters, "Rudolph" is actually the life story of Yukon Cornelius.
Yukon Cornelius retired from the north country to manage a small ranch in North Central Oregon. He rides a customized, stripped down Harley, which is how we crossed paths. I have a group photo here somwhere?? I learned that his neice, Peppermint Patty, nicknamed after the mine he discovered, developed her own acting career starring in Charley Brown specials.

Yeah, I had heard that too, John! However, I've also heard recently that Peppermint Patty is now retired from The Biz and is now living comfortably with her "life partner" Marcy in San Francisco!!!

My favorite will always be "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" with Chevy Chase... It is a classic and I watch it every year! Even introduced it to some asian friends over here! http://www.moviesoundscentral.com/wavs/christmas_vacation/hlgiftidea.wav

There was some talk of them taking over the franchise on Jaffa Cakes in the USA
