Welcome Lee. 4,000 miles? From where to where?

Welcome to the forum Lee. I've never embarked on such a trip, so I am excited about your plans!

"No rush" is the best plan. Enjoy the trip and don't ride when you are fatigued. Take loads of photos then share 'em with us here!

My wife and I have just spent 3 years sailing the Queensland coast. Our motto was:

"Make no plans and stick to it"

Don't rush anywhere you have the rest of your life in front of you.

Enjoy your trip. We are thinking of doing a trip up to Darwin and around the top end of Oz. A nice 10000 klm. trip.

When you are retired you can do these things.

That sounds like a great trip!

If you haven't done that long a trip before, you might want to ramp up to it by taking progressively longer trips over long weekends.

Experience with packing & riding over long distances for several days in varying conditions will be a great teacher.

Have a cell phone with charger that will plug into the bike and AC adapter, GPS, maps, list of repair shops along the way, small tool & tire repair kits, etc.

Oh yeah, bring a good camera!

Have fun & ride safe!

Do what Thenassis (sorry for butchering your name)does. It's fun watching his treks, so
post daily about your trip w/pictures.

Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

Sounds great. Yellowstone is pretty amazing, Glacier NP is nice and smaller scale. There's a "Going to the Sun" road across Glacier which I found a bit disappointing.

If I'd known what I was doing I'd have camped inside Yellowstone and actually gotten into some hot springs.

Rushmore and the crazy-horse monument are great. The sturgis rally was fun, not as crazy as you might think.

Post your route for review here, I recommend staying off the interstates after the first couple of days and not planning long days - once you get west of Iowa there's always something to stop for (No offence Larry!).
