I came across a for-sale ad for a Triumph Buccaneer in an older magazine. I had never heard of it or seen one but googling around I found pics of the Buccaneer and Legend - apparently made as limited issue customs by L. P. Williams in the final days of the original triumph. The Legend looks like a triple and the Buccaneer looks like a big twin. Buccaneer Legend I had never seen either bike and I thought people might be interested. The little info I found was here http://www.triumphrat.net/classic-vintage-and-veteran/103140-triumph-buccaneer.html

Didn't Triumph make the Legend in the '90s in the same kind of triple platform as the Thunderbird and the Adventurer?

Yeah, maybe the Buccaneer is next to be reborn, they were waiting for the new T'bird engine to be available.

(soon to be overheard at next year's 2011 Manchester International Motorcycle Show....)
"Well Mr.Bloor, we heard you were supposed to premier a new model this year. So tell us, where are your Buccaneers?"
-"Where are my Buccaneers, you ask??? Under my buckin' HAT, that's where!!!"

I always enjoy learning more about this whole Triumph thing. Nice find there Bill... those are interesting entries into the history of Triumph. Part of what makes them interesting is their likeness to each other.
Live to love, love to live.

There was one of those for sale in town here about a year ago. I think the asking was around 5 or 6K. That was the first time I saw one and the last at that too. Pretty rare bike.

I rode one of these around half of Greece back in '02 or '03. Very nimble. It's the bike that got me looking at Triumph models and voila! ... the Speedy.
On another point, I know Triumph recycles their model names and I had always wondered about the Legend model name. I didn't know a model with that name ever existed before. Bill's post explains it.

Those are great-looking bikes. You don't see many for sale around here and when you do, they sell fast.
What were the differences between the Legend & Adventurer?

The Legend was shod with 17 inchers fore and aft, and the seat was cut down by an inch or so, resulting in it having the lowest seat in the Triumph model range at that time.
The Adventurer was basically the standard Thunderbird(with 19/18in tires) with a "Harley-esque" kicked-up rear fender.
And regarding the Williams-built Legend... I saw one for the first time about 10 years ago while attending the Mid-America Classic M/C auction in Las Vegas. It was a beautiful example in close to a BRG color, and as I recall the hammer fell at about $15,000 on it.
