Just brought home my new 09 America. I still have my HD Sportster 883, but will sell it in the spring. Wow, my America is so cool! What a sweet comfortable ride. Can't believe I let myself get so beat up on my sporty for so long when I could've been cruising in comfort and style. Can't wait to learn more about my America and Triumph in general from you guys.

Yeah, Dave, but to those of us who don't know any better that still seems helpful... at least until we try it.

All of you are CRAZY!! I love it!!!

I do have to admit I love my HD pipes on my sportster so what do I do about my pipes BlueNose?

Also, do you find you like a tach? I am putting a small clock on the handlebars in between the risers, but what about installing a tach? I read some of the other posts but am still not sure.

Annie...
Pipes are a BIG discussion around here at times. There is a post that ranks pipe loudness. If you like louder pipes with a deep tone, I like Sceptres the best. I personally have epco's which are a little quieter and less deep in tone. I'll find the link and post it a little later...
Then there's the option of drilling out your baffles. Lots of folks here have had very positive outcomes from doing that. If you don't want to do it, one of our members does it. Chevy605 will do it for 100. It's right here if you want to check that out.

I forgot about the tach. That's a very simple job if you should want to do it. It's not necessary but I personally like it because it's cooler, you know. Go for it.

Here is that link to the very lengthy exhaust discussion on loudness and everything else that could be hacked out about pipes.

Good luck.

haha, yeah, I don't really care... in fact I have a little song I sing to myself and it goes a little something like this

I don't care
if you don't like me
'cause I don't like you
'cause you're not like me...

something like that

Yep, there's lots of spirited discussion around here about pipes. Me personally, I love my Bubs. They have a nice growl to them that is not too obnoxious. I'll be throwing them on my "new" 07 TBA next month. Although I suspect it will be kinda smoky at first. Since I wasn't sure how soon I'd be riding again, I made sure the insides were well coated with a light compressor type oil.

I do recall once, having a guy approach me in town, after parking my bike and asking me, "What kind of Harley is THAT?"

Thanks for the link and the info. Chevy605 does some nice work. They sound wonderful! Will probably put a tach on before the pipes, but the mirrors are first. I can't stand those round things!!

Congrats. You don't miss the vibration and lack of superb handling? I love mine. I use Dupont Teflon Multipurpose chain lube and that Honda all in one spray cleaner polish. I do not spray mine down with water except if its really dirty. Get the Sears bike lift for $100 if you don't have one. Mine is stock and runs great. Congrats on an excellent purchase. Stick with Mobile 1. I broke mine in by rocking it between 3000 and 5000 on an interstate. Mine was broke in at 500 miles so I went with full synthetic Mobile 1 at that time.

Nice ride bro! I had triumph teardrop added but these are the mutts!

Tach is a great idea Annie, I had short TORS and they did the business for me.

The great thing is that you can personalize your ride to your taste and that is just great fun. What's more you get some good honest advice from everyone here.

Already have the teardrop mirrors in the budget and the tach is now on the list too. But between the kitchen remodel I'm in the middle of and the plumber taking most of our Christmas money last week, it'll be a bit before my America gets any new gifts! Don't use any credit cards anymore and so have to be a bit more patient, not a bad thing.

The vibration of my HD wasn't too bad, it was the lack of shocks that made the ride uncomfortable. Went over some RR tracks the other day on my America and couldn't believe how smooth the ride was, didn't even bottom out leaving a store's driveway. What a concept, a comfortable ride!!

Holy Moley, Kathy, now you're bringing up shocks!? You don't know what a can of worms you're opening up here, with most on here hating the ride of the stock shocks, and the few "real men" like myself who are still using stock shocks and are just glad they were invented. Next thing you know, you'll be asking what kind of oil is best!!! Please, be carefull around here, as there are lots of smarta$$e$ around!

Welcome to the site, Kathy. But more importantly, congratulations on the purchase of your very appealing Triumph motorcycle pictured above.

(now I ask you Madame, did that sound anywhere close to being "trouble"-some at all there?!...don't listen to a word of what a few of these scoundrels and scallywags will tell you around here, UNLESS it's about what kind of oil to use in that pretty motorcycle of yours...oh yeah, and maybe what kind of aftermarket shocks you should purchase too!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
