I was thinking of drilling the vacuum ports on my slides to 7/64. I read a little how to Drill out your slides and I was wondering if there really is any real benefit to be gained by doing this. It's a pretty simple mod, so I figured "why not", But I thought I'd get some feed back first before I went and permanently changed a part on my bike's carb. Thanks, Bob

If i'm not mistaken, your slides should already have 3mm holes in them.

Just did the conversion and 7/64" is acctualy SMALLER than 3mm (7/64"=2.794mm) . He could have meant 9/64", 1/8". Who knows? Would anyone care to chime in with what size they drilled theirs out to and what difference it made (if any)?

Yours should already have the larger holes like our 04s. The advantage to be gained is the slides lift faster giving better throttle response.

, but sort of in the same area. Can anyone give me a part# or bike type that we can use the softer Kawi diaphram springs from? I read on another site that the GPz900 springs are recomended, but I can't find a place to order them. Thanks. Sorry for all the questions, I'm looking forward to chiming in with some helpfull info when I have some to give.

Just checked the holes and yep, 3mm. So now I'm thinking about the lighter springs. I'm pretty sure the guy that said "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" never owned a motorcycle . Edit: found the part# for the springs if anyone is interested 92081-1760. The link takes you to the Bike Bandit site where I ordered mine from.

The Kawasaki springs will give more response than that hole ever will

Sure, however the unintended consequence is most probably going to be a lean spike as the slide rises under acceleration with the Kawi springs & larger diameter slide hole. My bike needed 45 pilots to balance things out when I went to the Kawi springs alone.
CVK carbs are at best a compromise.
For reference, my 07 SM has K&N pods, 150 mains, 45 pilots, Thrux needles with (1) .46mm (or so) needle shim, Kawi springs, low speed screws less than 1 turn out, long TORS, & AI removed.
No internal mods yet, however I am awaiting receipt my TPUSA 813 cams

yes, I drilled mine to .120 , a number 31 drill. About as snappy a throttle as you are going to get out of the CVK's.

That's a negligible difference from 3mm...

Yeah, it makes the slide pop right up when you hammer the throttle. Even more of a difference on the bored stock carbs.

I just installed the Kawi springs, balanced my carbs (just a bit off) and WOW! It accelerates like a rocket now. I couldn't believe the difference. . Best smile to dollar ratio I've found in a while.

I'm guessing that if I install the Kawi springs that it won't affect the jetting, right? Also, do the 08's need to have the slides drilled, or did Triumph make that correction somewhere along the line ?

Triumph made the hole in the slide bigger somewhere along the line before the 08 model year. Shouldn't effect your jetting but could give you a lean spot depending what your jetting is now. I am not sure how much tension difference there is.

Do the springs come in pairs? I went to the site and found the spring for $15, but it didn't say if it was for a single spring or a pair. And I'd have to end up with 2 extra springs in they come in pairs.
