I am looking for some ideas for bobbing the rear fender on my America. Could you bobbers post some pics of you bikes please?
I think there was a thread sometime last year dedicated to bobbers, but I just haven't been able to find it. If you know of it, just link it to this thread. Thanks

Here's just a couple of threads with bobbed rear fenders. There are more... I just typed bobber in the search thingy to come up with these examples. Here's one here's another.

Looks good Dwight! That's how it should have been done on the Thunderbird.

Yeah! I can dig it! I got a custom tank and fender from harvdog, one of our members, a few months back but haven't used them because they are black and my bike is mulberry. So, I've been looking for and now acquired an extra rear fender that I'll bob and paint to match the custom tank and front fender that I have. I've got a T-100 tail-light assembly coming that I want to use. Just not sure how short I want to make the fender. I still want to run with my p-pad and triumph sissy bar. Its all good!

Dwight I wish I had seen your rear fender before i cut mine that looks nice. I did the same thing with my back rest mount put a little grab bar. I haven't had it on it yet because of the accident so it nice seeing yours and knowing it will look good.

Looking good there Dwight! So how did ya come up with the new shape you ended up with? Doodling on restaurant napkins? Etch-a-sketch? In a dream? I've never been a fan of the stock rear fender so probably will switch it up someday. But that one of yours looks like it belongs there. Nice.
How did the color match go on the paint?
(did ya 'll notice I said color and NOT colour, 'cause I just wanted to avoid the hassle of hearing about all that 'to 'u' is to error' stuff Dwight goes on about so all too often)

Thanks for all the compliments here folks! And Keith, yep, when you stated.."But that one of yours looks like it belongs there."..that's exactly the look I was goin' for. I wanted it to look like maybe it might've came from the factory that way, and so what I did was take a black grease pencil and drew a couple of different lines on my stock fender to see which one I liked the best, and then just measured that line and duplicated it on the fender I purchased from Friar John. And regarding the color(BTW...good show ol' boy about leavin' that superfluous u outta there...I'm VERY impressed! ), my painter who does great work for pretty cheap, actually admited he slightly goofed, as the fender turned out juuuuuust a slightly darker shade of Cardinal Red than the rest of the bike. But unless you've got a great eye for that kind'a stuff, I suppose it's pretty hard to tell.

Oh and BTW...the taillight assy. is from Bella Corse, and I picked it because it has that classic british Lucas taillight look to it, but has that slightly larger oval lense which I think matches the look of the larger cruiser model Triumphs.
And speakin' of "classic british" here...as you may have noticed, that's the look my BA is slowly goin' for, as I seem to be trying to move away from the "american/cruiser look" by changing to those gaiters up front and also by cutting down the front fender to resemble more of the old british Dunstall racing fenders of the past too.
(now if I could somehow also figure out a way to move the shift and brake pedals back to those mid-pegs there which I built a few year ago, then it'll really look and feel even more "classic british")

Yeah! You might be right there, John! Yep! It's this darn Anglophilic streak in me that seems to be causin' THAT, ya know?! However I hope you realize that the reason I WON'T ever go "Whole Hog Brit" is because those guys over there STILL use that darn "superfluous U" whenever they SPELL stuff!!! Hey Dwight! I don't know how I missed the pics of your bike and the bob? Anyway, you've done a terrific job there and that gold pin striping look sweet. Got a close-up on that?

EG, where'd you get your wheels done? Love the bike man, I'm currently working on bobbin my speedy out. I'm also switching to a bonnie tank. You need to trim your gaitors though.

Hey Eduardo, I'd seen pics of your bike with the apes and it was one of my favorite Americas, but with the new bars, it looks MEAN!
Nice.

I just copied your links to the pics without the quotations marks and pasted them, one at a time into the box that appears when you click on the insert image link. Then when you click continue, it should preview your post showing your images. If not, you havent gotten it right. Quote:
image]http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs225.snc1/7233_314471650483_720565483_9442429_615084_n.jpg[/image
After you have inserted the image, the syntax should look like the line in the quote box above except that I removed the first and last brackets "[ ]" so it would show you the code and not the image. When you continue, you should get a preview. If you straight back to the forum page, you can edit your last post.

Thanks, I had the wheels done by Scott Barnes Powder Coating. He is a local guy in Santa Cruz Ca. You're right about the gaitors, is there a proper way of trimming them or is there someone who sells them shorter? I'm liking all the cool bobbers that are popping up!

Interesting... I got paint codes from here and gave them to my painter type guy who in turn painted my retro hard bags. As it turns out the red is a bit darker than the rest of my cardinal red bike. Hmmmm, how did your guy come up with the red he used?

At his request, I took the front fender off the bike too and brought it to him, where upon we both matched it to a color wheel he had. I actually picked a slightly lighter red at first, but Jim got me thinking it was a little too light. Now I wish I would've stuck to my guns.
Still the final product ended up pretty darn close, and I probably wouldn't have even noticed it being juuuuuuust a slight shade darker if Jim hadn't mentioned it when I picked it up.

Just squirt a little silicon spray in the air hole at the top of the gaiter and they'll quit bunching up.
As for bobbers, the cat that gets the closest to this wins :-)

What size rear tire is that, looks like a fatty.I like it.I also see it as no rear brake light. Is that legal?I would love to trim my fender that far if I could get rid of the brake light.
