I am sorry I see no relationship between the two. They are building bikes there that will stay there. The workers will supply their countries own demand. That creates national pride and economic stimulation to the consumers as they are both consumer and workforce. That is a fabulous idea! Triumph is not building bikes in Thailand to stay in Southeast Asia and service that market. I wonder how many Rockets they sell in Cambodia. I hear the dealer network there is extensive. The Americans and Australians clearly have the work force and industrial complexes to build Triumphs in their own countries. I wonder why he picked a country so far away from us. Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble.

Well, I don't know about YOU Ron, but Jake's bit of information here kind'a reminds me of an old song from down that way that went "something like" this....
Large, unwieldy, and oh so ponderous the Harley from Manaus Brazil goes by us and as it passes it roars but nobody cares
And that's 'cause if ya wanna have fun smart folks'll give a Triumph a run and as they pass they smile while going The Ton

yeah this debate is as old as time itself.
I simplify it like this...
Who do you wanna support, a rich American , an American pride slogan, and hundreds of foreigners?
Or a rich Japanese man with hundreds of American workers?
I'll take the latter, a jobs a job no one likes their boss.
Oh and everythings non union regardless cause all the American factories are down south...thats give and take

Mercedes has been building trucks in Brazil for almost 40 years. Honda Goldwings are made in USA. I don't think "where" it's assembled makes a bit of difference. So, all you Siamese twin owners can relax and enjoy your great "English" bike!

(yep...I checked and its VIN# starts with a "2"...and you know what THAT means, don't cha?!)

Gold Wings are not made in the US anymore. It doesn't matter where it was assembled? It surely does matter. Ask the folks in Florida with Chinese drywall how life is treating them this year. Every kid loves eating lead paint, just can't get enough of that high-test leaded toy. It starts with assembly then the 3rd world business partner says " Hey look here, I can manufacture the components too at a fraction of what you are paying. " When you do business with countries with no controls you get more than you bargained for sometimes. Conversely the western countries have regulated their businesses out of business forcing them to look elsewhere. All I know is, countries that don't make anything eventually will make stuff for those who do. I can't see nations surviving as consumers. Everybody in your work force cannot be an investment banker.

My main point is given Harley's current financial situation,I could see them ever so quietly begin "assembling" bikes outside of the U.S. .I keep reading about the eminent close of their York plant due to inefficiancy, and let's face it what's more "efficiant" than moving operations out of the country and hiring people to do make them for what amounts to little more than slave wages.

Well, it sorta does. When Honda started making their products in the US, they found that the "stupid lazy" American workers built them so well at such a low cost, that many of the Hondas sold in Japan are American made.
However, I still can't understand why it makes sense to all those business majors that about the only products made in the US are Japanese and nearly all products of "American" companies are made in China.

I suspect the use of a lowercase "i" when referring to oneself represents an overly modest ego.
As for myself, I need a super-sized cap letter I!!!

I would be unstoppable if not for law enforcement and physics.
