I travel all over PA/NJ/NY/MD and VA for work, typically via my '08 Altima (100k on it...). Yesterday, I had to go from my home in Maryland to a PA Turnpike Travel Plaza near Somerset PA. The weather looked great, so I took the bike. It's about a 2.5 hour ride. I just put on a set of chaps over my work slacks and strapped my briefcase/laptop to the bike and set out. My route took me up I-70 to Breezewood PA than onto Rt. 30 and ultimately Rt. 31 to Somerset. The leaves and scenery was beautiful. I forgot my camera, so only have these cell phone pix to document my travels, but you get the idea. Rt. 30 skirts the PA turnpike in a few places and for once it was great NOT to be on that hated road where I spend most of my time. I laughed out loud and yelled "not today suckers" a few times, to no one in particular! On Rt 31, just past Bedford PA, starting up the mountain: I stopped by this covered Bridge East of Somerset, called Turners Bridge. It was about a mile down a gravel road. The bridge itself looked pretty rickety and uneven, so I didn't venture across. These shots were taken off Rt 31, on top of the mountain. The rolling hills/corners were great. There is a lot of dump truck/logging trucks that passed me, but I was never held up in my direction. The road I parked near was gravel and looked pretty rough, didn't venture down there either. While stopped for pictures, two hot looking chicks came up the road and asked if I was OK. Sadly, I was...

That is my route. Too bad I didn't have time to avoid 70. Going home at 5 PM from Hancock to Hagerstown is kind of a mad rush that would have been fun to avoid. Quote:

You weiner....
You were probably 10-15 miles from Snert, maybe 60 miles from me, and within 20-70 miles of several other Triumph riders on this site. You should have stopped in the Jean Benet tavern, they have good food and a lot of history. It is right at the apex where 31 meets Rt30.
That's one of our "out 'n' backs" - 30 to 31 or 31 to 30 and back. Lots of nice riding in that area.....

Well, it was a work trip. I had to do an inspection and than get home by dark. There's too many dead deer on those road for me this time fo the year. Oddly, no bikes when I went by Jean Benet on this trip. I did remember to get gas this time before leaving Somerset. I did this same trip in August and darn near ran out of gas on the way home. I was probably 15 miles into reserve before hitting that gas station right near Jean Benet. In fact, I gassed up at the same station and owner where I asked directions to Rt 31 in August and the guy remembered me. I'd love to take a casual ride up there one of these days, it's really a lovely place. Quote:

Yeah, Don's right. You were about 13 mi. from my house, but I was at work in Somerset so you were real close somewhere while in Somerset. Rt. 31 is one of my favorite shortcuts home.
I've become comfortably numb

Wow--If only THIS was the point where you were low on gas and had to ask for a lift to the filling station Nice bike and a pretty ride in the country!

My destination was the Travel Plaza (Roy Rogers) on the PA Turnpike. I use the employee entrance and stay off the Turnpike when on the bike. Access is via the Somerset Industrial Park. Quote:

That's a Garmin 755T. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. It's not waterproof, but only about $400 here in the states. I listen to directions and MP3's with earphones. It could have a little more volume for the MP3's, my Specialty Spares at 75 mph overwhelm the songs a bit, no problem hearing directions.
Here's some info on my mount: http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=414690
