Went to visit my local Triumph Dealer today and was told something a little scary. He told me that they did not sell a single America this year. I wonder how much the tank change has cost our bike??

I guess we'll find out if they stop making them. Or if they change back to the older style tank. They really could do it if they tried.

I can't see them stop making the America. It was a big part of making Triumph fiscally healthy. IMHO, I think once the initial excitment of the new T-bird dies down (6mos to a year?) they will start selling again, or like Dave said maybe they will have to redesign it again. Make the retro style more retro.

Bloor is a business man first, not a biker or even much of a motorcycle fan. If the America isn't selling, he'll kill it off.

Cool! My bike will be a coolectable!

Only one of 2 years with the 2 tone blue paint, 1st year of EFI, and if they put the knee pad tank back on, that will make it that much more unique! Gotta go put it in storage and stop riding it, to preserve the collectible value!!!

Oh, yeah, I like my new style tank

but did your Triumph dealer sell any Speedmasters?i think both models would have to sell poorly before they kill one or the other.starting in 08 the America and the Speedie are alot closer to being the same bike than ever before.on both models the whole engine is black except for the covers which are chrome on the America.if you go to the "build my own Triumph"part of their website any color option avaiable for the Speedie is avaiable for th America and vice versa.so as long as both are doing ok as combined unit sales i think they would be ok.little things like handlebars, chrome covers, rims and 16 or 17 front sprockets aren't going to be enough to kill one model and not the other, they are to just to close to being thae same bike now.

Hmmm... that is just one dealer. I mean I bought my BA this year. I do agree though, that the old tank has a meaner look to it. However, I do like the 5 gal capacity of the new tank. Solid 200 mile range ain't bad.

Good point there, Jake!

And Chris, I wouldn't worry too much about this. You see, just as Paul mentioned here about a possible re-design comin' down the pike...

....somethin' like this MIGHT help "revitalize" the sales figures of both the BAs and Speedies, ya know.

Now, THAT of course would all be encumbant upon them realizing the "retro style" of these models is one of their primary sales attractions to the public, and thus that they DON'T FORGET to add COOLING FINS onto that afforementioned re-design when they do that, you see!!!

(yep...now THAT could be a major mistake on their part if they FAIL to remember THAT, IF ya ask ME boy!!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That's funny, I thought he already did? What is called the America now is not the Bonneville America this site was premised on.

About the only thing that remains the same is the frame.

The America and Speedmaster have so much in common now I wouldn't be surprised if he consolidated and offered the eliminated model's unique features options for the chosen one.

I could see him killing off the Speedmaster and offering the wheels, bars and seat as options on the America (which is more or less what he's already doing, except for the bars).
