I went back to using a Mac early this year. There were a few driver problems with my printer but they were resolved within a few weeks. My flatbed scanner, on the other hand, simply would not work. I finally found a software fix but it would cost about $60. I was about to do it when I saw an new scanner, color printer, fax, copier for $59 at Sam's Club. Great resolution, outstanding OCR capabilities and a pretty good backup printer. A huge improvement for less money than just making my old stuff work. At the rate we're going they'll be giving this stuff away in a few years.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Afraid not. By that reasoning the computer manufacturers should have started paying US to use their products about fifteen years ago.
What really happens is the cheapest products stay at about the same price, but they get new features every couple of years.
I'd sure like to know what brand of printer you got at Sam's Club though. I'm on the lookout for a good deal.

It IS amazing, Larry. Just look at how much the cost of memory has dropped over the years. Glad to hear you found a sweeeet deal on a printer that does it all.

Printer manufacturers don't need to make money on the purchase of the printer. The real money is in the replacement cartridges, which cost almost as much as the printer.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Being a certified cheapskate I just re-fill mine.

In fact, if you do the math, computer ink is one of the most expensive fluids on earth. It comes out to like a thousand dollars a gallon or something ridiculous like that!

Dunnspeed's right, it's exactly like razor blades. they'll give you the handle for free. more importantly, congrats on your move to Mac.

I just throw my printer away and buy a new one when it runs out of ink, that's the cheapest

I've never been a Mac fan for compatibilities sake. Well that and the issues I have with proprietary systems. I have considered getting one since they started using windows, but have not had the chance to use one. Do the new systems with windows have the same feel as a PC?
I’m curious, but being “hands on†I would most likely build my next system too.

The feel is the same. Main diference you will notice is that a MAC runs Windows quicker than a PC.
Here is a list of things i miss most about not having a PC... - I enjoyed the challenge of fixing hardware/software problems/conflicts and constantly upgarding this bit and that to try and make it work faster / better. - I enjoyed the challenge of defending myself against virus attacks and installing all maner of firewalls, anti virus software. - I enjoyed the heart stopping moments when opening a joke email attachment when everything freezes and you wonder what you've just done - I enjoyed the thrill of setting up broadband conections and networks and spending endless hours getting decices to talk to each other
My MAC on the otherhand is very boring. It just works, and quickly.
