Having admired much of the work carried out by other members on this forum, and noticing my rubber speedo loop had broken (again), I thought I'd have a go at making something up.

A rummage in the garage revealed a cheap and nasty bicycle tyre lever, 2 tap (fawcet?) washers and a miscellaneous nut and bolt which went together to make this:

I don't suppose anyone who makes bits for a living will be loseing any sleep over my efforts, and I'm certainly not claiming to be in the same league as those of you who make beautiful polished and machined parts, but I think it'll work, and it didn't cost anything

If it's still in place when I get to Talybont on Saturday I'll know if it's up to the job

Yeah it's fast. It's blue and it has flames.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with "rolling your own."

Son #1, who's registered on this board, used an eyebolt from the local hardware store - painted epoxy black - on his yellow speedy.

And don't forget Brent's really nice looking "milled from bar stock" part.

Mine didn't work You need to make the loop small enough so the cable won't pull out (I didn't think the cable would move backwards, but it did). It's now replaced with a velco cable tie, but an eyebolt sounds like a good idea.

Here's a shot of my eyebolt speedo cable holder that I made over 2 years ago(a bit dirty right now). The rubber washer I put on to save the fender paint has become disfigured. I used black Rustoleum bbq paint on the eyebolt. IIRC, I had to cut off some of the eyebolt to keep it away from the tire.

Is the darned thing important? My rubber one is broken but I've been steadily ignoring it.

Well a common problem with the cheesy stock loop breaking is it allows the cable to touch the headers if you turn the handlebars just right(or is that wrong?). Mine did and left a nasty black mark on the header. Could have melted through to the cable if I wasn't aware.
