From the AP. West Virginia tops the nation in deer related crashes. Next are, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa and Montana. Interestingly, the article relates how the West Virginia state gov. considered tackling the problem by,.... "limiting driver's liability for repair costs in deer collisions". Yeah, that would make me feel a lot better, if the crash didn't kill me! The subject title line I used sums it up. Nobody is ever gonna do anything about this problem.

If you shoot a deer without a license or out of season it's the states deer and they'll fine you for it. If the deer runs out and kills or injures you or wrecks your vehicle the state has no responsibility and you're on your own. So, if you're going to shoot a deer, run over it before you take it home.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

AHA! There's the answer right there, politicians should pass a law that deer have to have a license and a limited season to hunt people!

Deer hunting is the practical solution. You eliminate deer on the roads AND put meat in the freezer.

However GB, the ONLY problem I can see with THAT is that it's ALSO a well known "deer statistic" that fewer then 2% of 'em know how to read a calender!!!
I was talkin' about the deer here, you understand, NOT the politicans! Because as I'm sure you know, THOSE FOLKS know EXACTLY how to read a calender!
(....especially around election time!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Politicans are the problem in the hunting solution. Iowa non-resident hunting fees increase June 02, 2009 at 10:41 AM The price for nonresidents to hunt in Iowa increased on May 27 when Iowa Governor Chet Culver signed into law a bill that increased the a nonresident hunting license from $80.50 to $110.50, and a deer hunting preference point from $10 to $50.50. Preference points are awarded to nonresidents who apply for any deer licenses, but do not get drawn. All information regarding the nonresident deer application process and applicable costs can be found on our website at http://www.iowadnr.gov. Nonresidents may apply for an any-deer license or preference point through June 7. In order to apply for the nonresident lottery drawing or to purchase a preference point, hunters must either go to the DNR website at http://www.iowadnr.gov or call 1-800-367-1188. This is nuts you can buy two hogs fer that $$$

Any way you look at it....if you die in a MC accident with a deer.....your survivor cannot possibly sue for wrongful death.
Aminals are not liable. Fact of life. Even when they do not yield the right of way.
If I had hit a deer who jumped out in front of me when I had my accident instead of a an old cooter in a cage who turned left in front of me ..allowing me a mere nano-second of reaction time....
I'd have got JACK SQUAT in terms of pain an suffering or liability.
Statistics on animals mean nothing.

I really don't understand the statistics given here... So, what... is it that you got your useless deer and your useFUL deer? Like maybe for every one useful deer there's 12 useless others? And what qualifies as a useless deer? The ones that don't get eaten? I just don't get it!!
Live to love, love to live.

I live in Ohio, work in wheeling wv. Ohio deer are huge compared to wv. deer and wv. deer are over populated..which I'm sure is the reason for more road problems.

Remember, these are the same guys who raise taxes out of "fairness" even after it's pointed out that increasing taxes actually reduces revenues.
If only Iowa had a proposition included in the state constitution we could pass a law requiring the state to pay damage deductibles and a penalty for deaths and injuries due to deer collisions. I'll bet they'd let us shoot a lot more of those ditch rats then.
