Announcing the Triumph Rocket III Roadster. http://www.superbike.co.uk/news/Triumph_Rocket_II_Roadster_motorcycle_info_news_289885.html Quote:
Well, thanks to an unplanned internet leak, Triumph's 2010 range has been all over the web. Including this new 2010 version of the Rocket III, the Roadster. Triumph has tweaked the engine and chassis, for even more power and torque, and the bike has a new riding position, making it more of a musclebike than a cruiser.
We're riding the bike next week (in glamorous Hinckley), so there will be a full launch report then. Until then, gaze upon this pic, and read the not-as-flowery-as-MV-but-still-slightly-OTT press release below.
Triumph introduce 2010 Rocket III Roadster Higher spec and lower cost for world's largest capacity motorcycle
Legendary British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph is introducing the most powerful version yet of its 2.3 litre Rocket III, the Rocket III Roadster.
The Rocket III Roadster moves out of pure cruiser territory into the ultimate muscle streetfighter category, bringing the biggest torque found on any production motorcycle.
Coming in two mean and moody black colour options, metallic Phantom Black or an aggressive Matt Black alternative, the Rocket III Roadster is powered by an updated version of Triumph's iconic three-cylinder 2,294cc powerplant. Maximum power has increased over the outgoing Rocket III, with torque up 15%, to a mighty 221Nm.
Triumph's sophisticated anti-lock braking system is fitted as standard to the Rocket III Roadster, which is the first time that an ABS system has been specified to the Rocket III platform. The bike has received extensive ergonomic and quality improvements over the previous model.
New ergonomics provide the Rocket III Roadster with a completely different riding experience from its predecessors. The footrests are now further back, lower down and more inboard, creating a more comfortable riding position, which non-cruiser riders will feel at home with. The plush new seat positions the rider higher and further forward than before, giving a relaxed and natural leg position while reducing the reach to the handlebars. The result is a Rocket that is easier to steer through corners than previous incarnations.
New rear suspension units have been designed to offer a more controlled ride than before, while the main components are blacked out to reinforce the Rocket III's aggressive image. All modifications have been designed to release more power and torque and optimise the aural experience while creating a more balanced appearance.
Less than a week after I decided not to buy an '07 classic in Colorado due to budgetary constraints, comes this news, just to torment me.

I wonder why the cost went down on a new "gotta have it" version?

Why Why Why ... would they need another version of the Rocket? Isn't 3 enough? I'm a big fan of the R-3 but this reminds me of the way Detroit and Japan rebadges their cars and trucks. They take one basic chasis and engine then make several models like people are too stupid (which most are) to know it's the same vehicle. eg Camry/Lexus 350; Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator; Chevie Tahoe/Cadilac Escalade. the list goes on and on. Come on... it's a R-3 with a few du-dads for gosh sakes, with a higher price of course. And really...does anyone need more then 140 hp on a 700 lb. MC?

Cool! I like the symmetrical exhaust(looks like it's off the R3T, maybe?), and the standard-bike positioned footpegs.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I say YESSSSSSS! Any more pix of this thing? Please tell me it only has a single headlight. I really liked the R3 Touring, but was turned off by the detuned engine. It's performance was just average versus it's competitors and even a few ticks slower than the Japanese cruisers.
I did love the hard bags of the R3T, hopefully the roadster will have some kind of bag options.
Now I know why I've been waiting for something else!

So, that's going to be Triumph's other new model for 2010? I was hoping for a Trophy replacement or 675 Tiger.

I've been looking at the Rocket even when I bought my TA. I thought the R-3T was the cat's meoow. Now I know why I held off. I'm pretty sure John, that you just showed me my next bike. I'll wait till it comes out in RED or BLUE, and I don't care if they ever put fins on it. Maybe that's what I'll name it, "Finns"

Shoot, I'm not a fan of the double-headlight. To me, it's like putting a sport bike fairing on our bikes.

Looking at the write up on Triumph site it seems the only Rockets in the line up for 2010 are the Roadster and the Touring.

I have a R3T,lowered the seat 2 inches, added the off road exhaust with retune to 123/126 hp,and can run faster than I care to..and I have never been outrun(do not race busa's).Lowering 200 lbs 2 inches changed the handling and corners very well...am completely happy with the bags, windshield and floor boards...the roadster is a little young for me as I prefer the mature ride!!

I asked my dealer about that the other day and he said he thought he saw an invoice for a 2010 R-3 Classic they were going to get. Of course this dealer has given me wrong information before. Their main thing is Victory, Polaris and Indians. They've only been selling Triumphs a year.

I just ran 221 nm (nutty monkeys?) through the conversion program and it came out 163 ft/lb. Very impressive even in real numbers.

This is correct Stephen. My mate was at a dealer meeting with Triumph and this was the info he was given. He did say that Triumph have promised a stunning line-up for 2011! As for the current line-up the Speed/Street Tripple range is doing exceptionally well - Daytona also holding up whilst generally the rice burners sales have fallen off a cliff.
Have to say the mods on this R3 are first class!
