I want to get some blown up photos of my Speedy for my computer room wall. Which do you think would look the best. [image] [/image] I will do some more without the garbage bins in the background. [image] [/image]

I like the second one...sometimes black and white photo works well....but in this case I like the colours that come out on the bike, looks great Yes good idea to remove the bins

I would find a better background (or at least one that didn't include trash bins!) Also, there's a flare because the sun is in front of you. Finally, I would try a sepia tone to it .. might come out really nice. But if you keep the same pic, then go colors, the red distract a bit from the trash bins...

If it's a digital camera, Take lots of pictures, and try lower angles. Lay down on the ground even.

Some good ideas here... better background, lower pov, sepia. I tossed in the pic below not to hijack your thread or show off (okay, maybe just a little) but just to give you some ideas.

That's a good angle Keith. You almost can't tell that you only have a white wall on the front.

Another trick (if you're not going for the laying on the ground type shot) is to put something under the side stand to stand the bike up a little. If you're going for the front-right quarter shot like mountainman take a couple of shots with the front wheel on different angles.
Backgrounds are important - when you're taking your pics find someplace interesting (it's a good excuse for a ride) that'll either compliment the bike's colours, or will give it a "theme". Carparks of old 1950's diners or drive-ins make good shots for sepia or black & white... old, falling down, timber farm sheds (with or without dusty old farm equipment) or good for making your shiny red bike stand out... Try some night shots in the middle of a brightly lit city (especially if it's rained recently and everything's wet & reflective). Just remember to keep the bike the "centre of attention" - you don't want TOO interesting a background that'll compete for attention.
Get yourself a couple of bike magazines and see what the professional photographers have done (with or without semi-naked female models draped over the bike). Go for a ride with your camera and park your bike anywhere unusual you can find (take a chamois so you can wipe off road dust between shots), and fill up that memory card with heaps of shots and angles, then go home and select the best. Use cropping & resizing tools to centre the bike in the frame, and you can even get creative and add effects like flares, watercolour, or blur with most photo editing software these days (don't over-do these however... effects are like makeup on a pretty girl, they should be used subtly to enhance, not plastered on so you can't see the original).

Matt, I gotta tell you that was a pretty good lesson given in the art of photography! I gained a few good tips from there as I am sure others including Frank will too.
And ummmm, pretty much OT but given your occupation, I have to ask... did you ever see the movie, "The Unbearable Lightness of Being."

Thanks for all the advice and tips guys. Sandman you are the best, I have a big garden with palm trees and native trees and bushes and I was trying to work out where to take the pics untill I read your reply. I will be out on Thursday with the Ulysses Club and I will take my digital camera and try to find somewhere to photograph without the garden fence I would end up with at home. When you mentioned the scantilly clad ladies I thought I would ask my wife then I decided castration wouldn't suit me. Typical of Friar John to notice the odd tyres.

I have enough problems remembering what happened yesterday.
Must be the signs of getting old.
