After having a great time at last weeks Noreast Rally (thanks again Ed) I had a beautiful ride back to Syracuse on Saturday late afternoon. On the way, as I pulled to a stop in Geneva I got a load "squonk" from my rear disc. From there home each time I stopped I got the same deep squeal. Today, I finally had time to look - thought it may be glazed. I looked at the disc & it has small elongated raised flat glassy spots (nothing bigger than .03125" across by .125" in length). I read that you can use a scotchbrite green pad or fine sandpaper to take them off but don't want to attempt until I run it through the knowledge bank of the forum?
Why all of a sudden would the disc form glaze?
How do I get rid of it?
My bike is a 2004 America w/ 7,700 miles

John,

Check your rear brake pads. If they are Triumph pads they don't last very long. 4-5k depending how you use them.

This may be a no-brainer, but double check your lever adjustment. If it's set too high your boot may be resting on it and slowly wearing your pads and glazing your disk while you ride?

Thanks Don - I'm certain they're the stock pads. I'll get some new pads in and we'll see. I haven't done brake work since the 70's and that was rear drums on a Chevelle so I'm sure it'll take more time than it should!
