check battery connections, ground to chassis and ignition switch - also check rear of fuse box for good connection on all fuses.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Is there any common symptom when it quits like after a bump or when shifting gears or is it totally random? What about how it quits? Does it just cut out or slowly sputter and die?
If it is cutting out instantly, sounds electrical. As Pat suggested, look at the obvious electrical connections especially those that will typically kill your engine. You might have to open every connection and check to see if anything is loose. While you are doing it, make sure you fill the open connectors with dielectric grease.

Just a quick question about this dielectric grease, is the idea to coat the metal surfaces with it because it stops corrosion but still conducts electricity. I bought a tube of the stuff and have been meaning to coat all the connections as many have suggested but I've never actually read anything about how it protects circuits. cheers staffo

Right you are. Any open connections (and the Triumph has a lot of them) are prone to water ingestion and tons of problems over time. All connections should have the grease packed into both ends to try to prevent water from corroding. Actually if all the connections were water tight, GM, Deutz or any other good quality make connections sealed at both ends, our nuisance electrical problems would disappear.

Hey insider50 , I just went on a 1000 mile ride on my 03 speedy, me and the bike were becoming 1, untill the ride home. I was going 80 on the interstate it was losing one cylinder, I pulled over and without stalling , ran good again, I went about 20 miles and it did it again. this happened about 2 more times and the last time both cylinders quit. i pulled over and it would not start. I could hear the battery start to die, so I waited about 2 min. and tried again, it started right up like nothing was ever wrong! . I made it home and was poking around the internet and found this forum entry:http://www.triumphrat.net/cruisers-america-speedmaster/111848-speedmaster-cdi-problem-2.html Long story short , I bit the bullet and bought a CDI from a Triumph dealer. Surprise this gadget was back-ordered, Later I got a call they just got 4 in the country from the UK, I grabbed one. I could have let them check it out but I was afraid to spend a lot of time and money and the problem not happen for them. I did check all my connections first though, and the correct spark plugs were being used. I just got the bike last dec. only had 2500 miles on it. Anyway I had it out last Sat for 120 mile test ride , no problems. BTW the cdi is 589 bucks US. Hope this is not your problem , but just thought I would share the info... good luck!

Well, thought everything was fine until deciding to ride my America to work and experienced a shutdown problem. In my case I had pushed the bike out of the garage, cranked it and returned to put on my gear before returning back outside. Before returning to the bike, it shut down before I could mount the saddle and then would not restart with the clutch engaged and/or the kick stand raised.... Am wondering just where to start with this problem since I have not ever experienced anything such as this with it before.... HELP IS NEEDED ASAP

would it start after you turned the ignition off and then on again? mine does. my dealership says its the ignition modual. i ordered one and will let ya know if that fixes it. it is expensive. mine was an 04 with 25ooo miles on it when it started acting up.

Nope, mine did not start after turning the ignition off and back on again.... Just plain out and out died and would not restart..... It was like the battery flat quit producing any output to anything but the headlight which would illuminate and change from bright to dim and it was the only light that illuminated. Turn signals and tail and brake light would not illuminate either.
