Hi, new to this forum I currently ride a Triumph Speed Triple, which does everything and more that I could want, however I am hankering for a more relaxed ride as I'm not getting any younger lol. I'm looking to trade in for either a Speedmaster or America. My questions are do you guys think I would miss the performance of my S3 and is there much difference between the Speedy and the America to consider before I take the plunge. I plan to test ride both, but keen to get your feedback, good or bad. Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard buddy ! I have an America & a '97 Sprint S ....there is a difference . However my Bonnie-A is much more spry since the new 904 big bore kit and it has been cafe'd out.. ( yes kind of an oxymoron- a cafe'd America) They are both fun and the Bonnie-A ,IMO, edges my SprintS in the grin department

I think you will most definitely miss the performance of your S3, but you have to realize that these are not sport bikes, no matter what engine and suspension upgrades you do. They are, however, some of the coolest bikes on the planet, and they turn heads with unmistakable styling everywhere they go. There are a lot of us that can ride all day, over 600+ miles with no problems comfortably. Welcome to the site!

Hey up Doug You have to ride both to get the feel for what suits you. It will be a bit of a culture shock coming from the S3 but neither America nor Speedy should disappoint too much. I have a '53' America and love it. I prefer the America riding position over the drag bars of the Speedy. Speedy front brakes are much better having twin discs upfront. You could always get the best of both worlds - get an America and do the twin disc front brake upgrade thingy ...then again, I also have an '08 Rocket that I'm just about to go and play on .... vavavoom BTW, like Grzegorz said, where you at?

I had a CBR1100xx before the America and yes....you'll notice a definite difference in performance !! But look at your reasons for changing bikes.....I'd done the 'speed' thing and was looking to slow down while I still had a licence and was still in one piece !! Never regretted the change and love the Triumph. Go get a test ride and enjoy the laid back cruising !!

Hi, thanks for all the feedback so far. Today I went to a dealer to see a Speedmaster in the flesh and enquired about a px with my S3. He made me a pretty good offer, but I would like to test ride it first, I may hate it, but doubt it. Going to try and arrange a test ride for next Wednesday so will let you know how I get on. I'm in Wiltshire BTW.

Hey! Wilts is quite big... and some of us were at my (Well Bristol TOMCC) rally this weekend in Chippenham. There are members in Calne and Chippenham.
And don't even think about the Speedie... but then I'm extremely biased!!!! Welcome.

Hi Doug,
My last bike was a 1200 Bandit and I had concerns like yourself but have not regreted changing to an America,
You may also want to consider all the accessories you are going to need and if you like black or chrome engine covers.
Never had any problems with the single disc on my bike, but some have.

Ok, an update. Had a test ride on a Speedy today, loved it, but not the way it sounds! The dealer offered me a reasonable px deal which included £500 of free accessories, so we've done the deal and I am now the proud owner of 2009 Speedmaster in black and white, hope to pick it up next week. One of the freebies I have taken is the TOR short slash cuts so I'm hoping they will sound a bit better!

Cool Performance Triumph are better than Fowlers. Take it from someone who went to Nottingham to buy her latest bike - and I'm less than a mile from Fowlers. I've not been to the Swindon one, but Cheltenham are great. At least you've bought the fastest colour even though it is a Speedie... And yeah the TOR's will sound a whole lot better!

Congrats on your new bike. Glad you got the tors which will make you like it even more. Ain't it gonna get too wet and cold to ride it soon? Wouldn't want to get it dirty now...
Have fun!!!
